I was watching this unfold on television yesterday and noted the time exactly as you mentioned. If this chart is any indication of how his campaign will fare from here on to November, it looks good. However, the nodes will transit closer to the even-house MEPs to within two degrees by election day possibly signaling that the campaign will see signs of stress.

 

It will be interesting to work up a similar McCain chart. One thing I do notice about next week is the conjunction of Su/Sa and Ve/Me/Ma so the exact time will be critical to determine which ones, if any, are the FMs.

The speech by Obama comes on the 45th anniversary of the famous "I have a dream" speech by Martin Luther King on this day in 1963.

 

Aside from the Sun being about in the same place in the SAMVA USA chart (Perpetual Union), - around 12° Leo and 2nd house - which is good for status, there were some afflictions of the natal SUN, as there are now also taking place. Then the Sa/Su period was operating - which is important as 8th lord Saturn aspects Sun natally. Transit 4th lord Venus was conjunct transit Sun, giving a uplifting feeling from his speech. At the same time, 8th lord SATURN was conjunct the natal Sun, and had begun its retrograde movement which would bring it to the exact conjunction point in late November. This transit is forever linked to the tragic assassination of President Kennedy on November 22, 1963. At the time of the speech, however, Saturn was also aspecting transit 6th lord Jupiter in the 9th house, which would indicate the political turmoil of the day.

 

At the time of Baracks speech, Ve/Ju period is operating. Transit 4th lord Venus is conjunct transit 3rd lord Mercury in the 3rd house. Transit Jupiter is in its own sign and house, where it is strong. This should be a speech that inspires good feelings and motivates the young people. 1st lord Moon will be conjunct the nodal axis and opposing the natal Sun, which would be good, but as it takes place with the nodes in stationary and applying conjunction with the natal Sun, it suggests some tension for Americans, especially as sub-period lord Jupiter is also in applying aspect to transit 8th lord Saturn. Both planets are under the aspect of natal Rahu in the 10th house. This indicates that a lot of tension can erupt in the national affairs.

 

So, both speeches take place at a time of tension. In the former case, a tragic event followed. Let´s hope nothing tragic happens in coming weeks and months. In particular, next week, when the transit Sun becomes conjunct transit 8th lord Saturn and comes under the aspect of transit 6th lord Jupiter and natal FM Rahu. That will likely not be an easy time for the President of the USA or the status of the country.

I have learned that Barack Obama's speech started 08:14:02 pm. He quickly accepted the nomination, and it is timed at 08:14:28. This gives 29° 42' Aquarius rising and Me/Ve period with 9th lord Venus at 4° 09' Virgo where it is debilitated and badly placed in the 8th house and conjunct 8th lord Mercury at 5° 59' Virgo. While there are other helpful placements in the chart involving Jupiter, Saturn and Sun, this time can not be judged to be auspicious at all.
