Dear friends,

An interesting astronomical event today. Perhaps this is the reason so many astrologers are predicting the likelihood of an earthquake to strike today.

Best wishes,

If the full moon tonight looks unusually large, it is not your

imagination – it is the biggest and brightest full moon to be seen for

15 years.

Each month the Moon makes a full orbit around the Earth in a

slightly oval-shaped path, and tonight it will swing by the Earth at

its closest distance, or perigee. It will pass by 356,613km (221,595

miles) away, which is about 28,000km closer than average.

The unusual feature of tonight is that the perigee also coincides

with a full moon, which will make it appear 14 per cent bigger and some

30 per cent brighter than most full moons this year – so long as the

clouds hold off from blocking the view.

The next closest encounter with a full moon this large will not be until November 14, 2016.

Hi Sally,

An earthquake has to be over magnitude 4 or 5 to be considered significant. An earthquake below 3 is not considered significant as there are thousands of those every year. People have to be close to the epicenter to feel such a small quake.

We have learned a few things here on SAMVA over the years.

1. In order to predict earthquakes, the 4th lord and house have to be afflicted in transit. Even then, it is not easy to accurately predict the tremors as other events, reflecting other indications of the 4th house, can also take place.

2. In the SAMVA USA chart, there are three things that contribute to earthquakes that can be quite destructive:

a) the bad placement of 4th lord Venus in the 6th house makes the country vulnerable to setbacks involving the indications of the 4th house.

b) the slightly over 2° orb affliction of Ketu to the 4th house (Libra/Venus), along with the 8th of (Aquarius/Saturn), 10th (Aries/Mars) and 12th house (Gemini) adds to the karma.

c) over slightly 2° orb affliction affliction of Rahu to the 6th (Sagittarius/Jupiter) and 4th houses (Libra/Venus), along with the 2nd (Leo/Sun) and 10th houses (Aries/Mars) adds to the karma.

To this we can add that in 2008, there have been several earthquakes of significant magnitude that have been ACCURATELY PREDICTED based on the aspect of transit Jupiter afflicting natal Venus in the SAMVA USA chart.

Best wishes,

Thor

Earthquakes possible in USA in 2008

http://cosmologer.blogspot.com/2008/04/earthquakes-possible-in-usa-in-2008.html

1. The biggest earthquake to strike was a 5.9 richter in California on July 29, 2008.

2. There was also a moderate 4.0 earthquake in Oakland, California on September 6, 2008

In the article on April 20 it was noted that:

"There are two factors that reduce the likelihood of a major earthquake in late August or early September. First, transit 8th lord SATURN, which casts an aspect to natal KETU in the 4th house, will be rather fast moving at that time. Second, KETU in 1st house will have moved past exact aspect to natal 8th lord SATURN. "

In a message on SAMVA I noted:

"Today [september 6, 2008], there is a report of a notable but not major earthquake in northern California.

Minor quake jolts Oakland, California

updated 3 hours, 41 minutes ago

Story Highlights

- Magnitude 4.0 quake strikes east of Oakland, California

- Quake's epicenter was about 10 miles below surface

- There are no initial reports of damage or injuries

SAN FRANCISCO, California (CNN) -- A magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck east of Oakland, California, at around 9 p.m. ET Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake's epicenter was about 10 miles (16 kilometers) below the surface, the USGS reported. Residents said they felt a sharp jolt, saw plants sway and dishes rattle.

There were no initial reports of damage or injuries.http://edition.cnn.com/2008/US/09/06/california.quake/index.html

========

I then noted the additional aspects and concluded that hurricanes were possible:

========

"That said, as 6th lord JUPITER is the sub-period lord and it is afflicting 8th lord SATURN in transit, and this aspect becomes exact around September 9. The Sun is now debilitated in Navamsa for three days, from 6-9 September, weakening its indications further. Moreover, as the Jupiter aspect to Saturn remains within 1° orb until September 18, there are other factors to consider, especially, in mid September, when transit VENUS, MERCURY and MARS in Virgo move into the afflicting aspect of transit stationary RAHU at 24° 30' Capricorn. This astrological pattern could be associated with additional hurricanes or earthquakes."

Some ten days later a devastating hurricane Ike caused major flooding as predicted and explained in the following article:
