Guest guest
Dear list members, In the article Predictions for the USA in 2009 I note the likely paralells of the upcomgin Venus-Saturn period (February 2009- April 2012) to the earlier Venus-Saturn period (February 1889-April 1892). The most striking similarity is with the latter part of the 19th century, a period which Mark Twain dubbed the "Gilded Age". While outwardly there was material progress, beneath the surface there was corruption. The economic situation turned less favourable at the start of the 1890s (see attached graph), with an outright crash occurring in 1893 (equivalent to 2011 in terms of the Vimsottari dasa/bukhti periods in the SAMVA USA chart). In the article it is noted that the transits of the slow moving planets are 1-2 years behind that seen in the earlier period. At the same time, while there are differences, there seem to be clear trend similarities. As now, there is a rise of "populism" with the aim to fight the greed and corruption of businessmen and government leaders. A Democrat Barack Obama has been elected as President to replace the incumbent Party and its President Bush. Obama is expected to pass laws that seek to protect and benefit "Main street" as opposed to the fat cats on "Wall Street". Already, he is discussing reducing taxes on working people. For instance, President Harrison (1889-1993) passed the Sherman Anti Trust Act and the McKinley Tariff in 1890 (equivalent to 2010). While recent years have not witnessed a rise of "Robber Barrons" in steel, railroads and oil, we have seen the rise of a class of banking and investment CEOs raking in the dough with unsustainable gambling activities on financial markets. Some were outright swindlers already in jail or on the way there. Now that the house of cards has tumbled, there is a popular reaction in the offing that seems to be similar today as it was then. I would be interested to hear what list members think about the similarity of these two periods in US history. http://cosmologer.blogspot.com/2008/12/predictions-for-usa-in-2009.html Best wishes, Thor

Guest guest
Hi Sally, Glad you find the comparison of interest. Many have compared the situation at the present time with the tremendously painful financial and economic crisis that broke out in 1929. When I began to look at the previous Venus-SATURN period (1889- 1892) in the SAMVA USA chart a somewhat different comparison presented itself. While the situation is expected to become difficult based on the SAMVA USA chart, as indeed the natal potential for such problems is seen, the destitution of people or misery seen in the Great Depression of the 1930s is not expected in coming years. At that time a major malefic transit and period combined to create a shocking crisis. While there were plenty of problems in the 1890s, and the problems today are huge, the SAMVA USA chart suggests the degree of pain in coming years, as was the case in the 1890s, will be significantly less than what was experienced in the 1930s.
