Stock market teetering on the brink of collapse

Dear friends,

According to stock market prognosticator Richard Russell, author of the well known "Dow Theory Letters," if the Dow Jones Industrial Average closes below the November 20, 2008 low of 7552.29 it will mean "a bear market confirmation". In other words, in this case he expects the Dow to head a lot lower - a lot lower - ushering in a bona fide "bear market" in the USA. Such a development would have repercussions for the entire world. Currently, the Dow is trading only a few points above this critical level, or at 7563.91. The stock market has been unnerved by the threat of a major meltdown in Russia and Eastern Europe, with implications for banks in a number of countries. Already, the euro has dropped against the dollar, which is again acting as a safe haven currency. However, the money seems to be headed for bonds, not stocks, as witnessed by the drop on the US

stock market. It is interesting that this development is coming when Mars is conjunct both Rahu and 6th lord Jupiter. As we noted early in 2008, when Mars transited Gemini and the 12th house of the SAMVA USA chart, confidence was very low and the financial market became very nervous. Today, with Mars afflicted in transit, albeit exalted in Capricorn and well placed in the 7th house, it seems the market has contracted a bad case of nerves.

As I have noted before, the Venus-Jupiter sub-period ends today, and the Venus-Saturn sub-period begins. This is supposed to mean that things will slow down and become more sluggish. It is not expected that the stock market takes a big dive, but it cannot be excluded. Interesting times.

Best wishes,

Thor

Dear friends,

In the attached graph of the DJIA you can see the index has been hovering just over 7550 all day long. This is an interesting development in itself. The outcome of all the sales and buys in the market it such that the market neither rises or declines - it just hangs in a flat line above the previous lows. Why is that, you may ask?

We have earlier mentioned that in the SAMVA USA chart (Perpetual Union), Rahu at 17° 47' Aries afflicts houses 10 (government administration and foreign trade), 2 (wealth and status), 4 (fixed assets and natural resources) and 6 (debts and financial stability. These are houses which all have something to do with money, in one form or the other. Rahu also is the planet of manipulation. Currently, Rahu is afflicting the lords of two of these houses, 10th lord Mars and 6th lord Jupiter in the 7th house. Is what we are seeing in a case of market manipulation of the stock market by the US authorities? In other words, is the US government purposefully buying stocks when many investors may be off-loading their shares. Presumably, the government would be doing so in the hope of arresting the panic before it deepens further.

This question of market manipulation comes up, given the configuration in the chart and the unusal behaviour of the stock prices at this critical level.

Best wishes,

Thor

Dear friends,

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed just a smidgen above the prior low.

Feb. 17, 2009: 7552.60

Nov. 20, 2008: 7552.29

For technical analysts, it has positive meaning that the stocks did not technically breach the prior lows, even if very close.

We could also note that in the past few days there have been two cases of large financial frauds revealed. One involves a military commander in Iraq who siphoned off over $50 billion of aid intended for Iraq. With Mars joining Rahu and 6th lord Jupiter in transit this is perhaps not so surprising. The second case involves a Texan operator of an investment fund who cheated investors out of $8 billion. We could recall that has earlier predicted that financial scandals could be revealed at this time. They certainly have.

These are certainly interesting times.

My dear ,

Thanks for the insight.

A question that many are asking at this time is if the Dow will close on any day below the critical level, 7552.29, the previous lowest (November 20, 2008) close. This would be seen by many technical analysts as a sign that the US stock market has entered a primary bear market trend, likely to head ever lower. More importantly, it would be seen as a signal of hard times ahead for the US economy. The day before yesterday, the news were filled with reference to this prior low close.

Thanks for the assessment.

Indeed, as mentioned earlier, with the Venus-Saturn period now having begun in the SAMVA USA chart, cooler conditions are to be expected for the economy in coming years.

Best wishes,

Dear friends,

According to stock market prognosticator Richard Russell, author of the well known "Dow Theory Letters," if the Dow Jones Industrial Average closes below the November 20, 2008 low of 7552.29 it will mean "a bear market confirmation" . However, the money seems to be headed for bonds, not stocks, as witnessed by the drop on the

US stock market.

Dear friends,

The day after US stocks dropped through a psychologically important level (7552 on the Dow Jones Industrial Average), financial concerns are continuing to drive stocks lower in the USA and elsewhere.

Dear friends,

A pervaisive sense of gloom pervades the US financial market at present, a sense that the financial system has "died", for lack of better term. This sentiment was yesterday summed up well by renowned investor George Soros.

Soros sees no bottom for world financial "collapse"

Fri Feb 20, 2009 9:26pm EST

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Renowned investor George Soros said on Friday the world financial system has effectively disintegrated, adding that there is yet no prospect of a near-term resolution to the crisis. Soros said the turbulence is actually more severe than during the Great Depression, comparing the current situation to the demise of the Soviet Union. He said the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers in September marked a turning point in the functioning of the market system. "We witnessed the collapse of the financial system," Soros said at a Columbia University dinner. "It was placed on life support, and it's still on life support. There's no sign that we are anywhere near a bottom."http://www.reuters.com/article/businessNews/idUSTRE51K0A920090221?feedType=RSS & feedName=businessNews & rpc=23 & sp=true

The tone of resignation is characteristic of Saturn, whose sub-period in the SAMVA USA chart commenced on February 17, 2009. In general terms, the energy of Saturn is quite different from that associated with e.g. the optimism and vigor associated with the strong and good placements of Mars, Moon or Sun in the chart. As 8th lord Saturn also rules "endings". The affliction of natal 8th lord Saturn to transit Saturn is also being highlighted since the period began.

As was described in the article Predictions for the USA in 2009 (Wednesday, December 31, 2008):

"During [the Saturn] period ... there will be increased awareness of obstacles and endings in the national life..."
