Guest guest
Dear Professor, In the human charts we do the required charities and prayers to appease the malefics. The question about how to propitiate in the mundane charts remains outstanding (as far as I know). I offer the following thought and would be interested in your view on it. We are all children of our bith or adopted countries and global citzens. If a child cannot do the propitiations, then the parental figures perform it and the effects are quite good. The opposite is also true. Nations and the planet itself from a greater perspective, is our parent and we can do propitiations to end problems experienced therein. So anyone aware of this, which I believe holds truth, can simply give charity in the name of a particular country or the world in general. A challenge may lie in the quantity of charity given and good behaviour of the nations/citizens. However, every little bit counts and at the very, very least, it would add to our good karmic bank balance. Best regards, Vyas Munidas
Guest guest
Hello dear Vyas, Charitable disposition and praying for peace and prosperity for one and all is one of the teachings of vedas. Guest guest
Dear Vyas and My humble Pranaams. Thank you Vyas, for asking this noble question. Even though not addressed to me, I thought I could share my 2 cents worth thoughts on my favorite subject. 1. In those days rishis used to perform Yagnas for " lok-kalyan " - for the benefit of the community. These used to be sponsored by the kings who wanted to do good to the community. Puranas show that all great Indian emperors performed many great yagnas for this purpose. 2. Poojas and other events performed in temples also benefit an entire community and are performed for lok-kalyan. Do they not end with " Sarve Janaa: Sukhino Bhavantu " ? it is not merely for people coming to the event at the temple, but he society as a whole. 3. About a year ago (June 2008), one such present day " rishi " (at least as I call him) was in Detroit MI to perform an Yagna. Among the reasons he stated why he came all the way to perform the yagna at his own cost - is the gloom and " despair " the nation was going face. 4. It is said, when somebody reads the Sunder-Kaand, no evil will come near a 5 mile radius - so even if there is one person reading it for personal propitiation, it could benefit others in the location. We have a saying in Tamil - " if there is even one good person in a city, it will rain for his sake. " 5. Nations do not accumulate Karma. Individual Jeevatma's do. Jeevatma's - both chit and achit, including planets - benefic and malefic - are finally His property. He is the cause of this universe. He has the entire universe of achit tattvas for his Shariira. He controls the Planets and their existence. He creates them and destroys them at will. Planets - benefic and malefic alike, propitiate Him. Devataa's from Brahma to Indra propitiate Him. Being devoted to Him, above all, is the path to universal liberation from Samsara Bandham - the true peace and prosperity. Good karmic bank balance can help the Jeevatma enjoy Swarga; but the Jeevatma will have to come back to this Samsara again. It is devotion to Him that will lead to universal liberation from Samsara - a point of no return.
