Guest guest
Dear friends, I have offered a study of the astrology of the outbreak of the US Civil War in terms of the SAMVA USA chart http://cosmologer.blogspot.com/2008/01/samva-usa-chart-civil-war-starts-in.html The Civil War, which lasted from April 12, 1861 (when confederate forces attacked the federal Fort Sumter in South Carolina) to April 9, 1865 (when General Lee surrendered his Army of Northern Virginia), was an event that challenged the integrity of the Union as Southern States sought to avoid and then free themselves of the dictates of the Federal Government. Before the start of the Civil War, the political tensions were already rife for several years. It seems that the election of Abraham Lincoln as President on November 6, 1860 was a critical event. The election brought Lincoln and the Republican Party to power without the support of a single Southern state. Lincoln had campaigned against the expansion of slavery beyond the states in which it already existed. The victory of Lincoln and the Republican Party in that election resulted in seven Southern states declaring their secession from the Union even before Lincoln took office on March 4, 1861. Both the outgoing and incoming U.S. administrations rejected secession, regarding it as rebellion. The Mercury major period was operating from April 1852 to April 1869. Mercury as 3rd lord rules communication, enterprise and communication with the people. Mercury is well placed in the 7th house of others, albeit widely combust the Sun. I would think the third house has to do with freedom to act and speak and hence the issue of slavery became an important issue during its major period. The Mars sub-period was operating at election time. As Mars is 10th lord, it rules the executive government. Mars is well placed in the 5th house, which rules management of people. Hence, the government became involved in issues having to do with orderly and fair management of people. That said, the Civil War itself was at its most deadly during sub-periods of * FM Rahu, which afflicts the 6th house of conflict, from October 16, 1861. * 6th lord Jupiter, lord of conflict, from May 4, 1864. I find it interesting that at election time in November 1860, transit 8th lord Saturn was settling into stationary placement at 17° 34' Leo and in the MEP of the 2nd house of wealth. This transit station lasted into February 1861. As Leo is owned by the Sun, the indicator of the leader of the country, the Sun's indications were affected by this placement. Moreover, Saturn was receiving a close continous affliction from natal Rahu at 17° 47' in Aries and 10th house of government, while Saturn was aspecting Ketu at 17° 47 Libra and the 4th house. As a result, seven States seceeded during exactly this period. We can add that Jupiter was in Leo and the second house at the time of the election. But by early Spring 1861 it had become stationary at 26° Cancer from where it exactly afflicted natal 8th lord Saturn - and the Civil War broke out. To top things off, on April 12, 1861, the nodes were in the 6th and 12th houses afflicting natal 4th lord Venus - soon to go stationary on the MEP of those malefic houses. In any event, I attach the transits in the following table and some charts. If Lincoln's election on November 6, 1860 was the catalyst for the Civil War, his death on April 15, 1865, less than a week after Lee's surrender, seems to have brought it to a close. [NB: Interestingly, with the election of President Obama on November 4, 2009, who models himself after the Great Emancipator, the states of Texas and Oklahoma have begun to challenge the authority of the Federal Government. That is an issue for later discussion.] Best wishes, Thor Jupiter Saturn Rahu Ketu 23.5.1859 4°Ge05' 15°Cn20' 2°Aq01' 2°Le01' 22.6.1859 10°Ge49' 18°Cn08' 29°Cp36'D 29°Cn36'D 22.7.1859 17°Ge35' 21°Cn40' 28°Cp33'D 28°Cn33'D 21.8.1859 23°Ge52' 25°Cn30' 28°Cp22' 28°Cn22' 20.9.1859 29°Ge04' 29°Cn08' 27°Cp48'D 27°Cn48'D 20.10.1859 2°Cn28' 2°Le05' 25°Cp53'D 25°Cn53'D 19.11.1859 3°Cn17'R 3°Le51' 22°Cp53' 22°Cn53' 19.12.1859 1°Cn14'R 4°Le02'R 20°Cp19' 20°Cn19' 18.1.1860 27°Ge24'R 2°Le39'R 19°Cp19' 19°Cn19' 17.2.1860 24°Ge09'R 0°Le21'R 19°Cp13'D 19°Cn13'D 18.3.1860 23°Ge22' 28°Cn13'R 18°Cp24'D 18°Cn24'D 17.4.1860 25°Ge23' 27°Cn16'R 15°Cp58' 15°Cn58' 17.5.1860 29°Ge35' 27°Cn53' 12°Cp50' 12°Cn50' 16.6.1860 5°Cn12' 29°Cn55' 10°Cp44' 10°Cn44' 16.7.1860 11°Cn36' 3°Le00' 10°Cp09' 10°Cn09' 15.8.1860 18°Cn12' 6°Le40' 10°Cp05'D 10°Cn05'D 14.9.1860 24°Cn31' 10°Le26' 9°Cp03' 9°Cn03' 14.10.1860 29°Cn55' 13°Le51' 6°Cp18' 6°Cn18' 13.11.1860 3°Le43' 16°Le23' 2°Cp59' 2°Cn59' 13.12.1860 5°Le06'R 17°Le34' 1°Cp05' 1°Cn05' 12.1.1861 3°Le39'R 17°Le07'R 0°Cp51'D 0°Cn51'D 11.2.1861 0°Le05'R 15°Le18'R 0°Cp40' 0°Cn40' 13.3.1861 26°Cn33'R 12°Le56'R 28°Sg50' 28°Ge50' 12.4.1861 25°Cn05'R 11°Le10'R 25°Sg34' 25°Ge34' 12.5.1861 26°Cn20' 10°Le47' 22°Sg44' 22°Ge44' 11.6.1861 29°Cn55' 11°Le56' 21°Sg39'D 21°Ge39'D 11.7.1861 5°Le05' 14°Le22' 21°Sg37' 21°Ge37' 10.8.1861 11°Le11' 17°Le40' 21°Sg10' 21°Ge10' 9.9.1861 17°Le40' 21°Le23' 19°Sg15' 19°Ge15' 9.10.1861 23°Le59' 25°Le03' 16°Sg14' 16°Ge14' 8.11.1861 29°Le33' 28°Le09' 13°Sg38'D 13°Ge38'D 8.12.1861 3°Vi38' 0°Vi11' 12°Sg32'D 12°Ge32'D 7.1.1862 5°Vi29' 0°Vi44'R 12°Sg18' 12°Ge18' 6.2.1862 4°Vi32'R 29°Le41'R 11°Sg25' 11°Ge25' 8.3.1862 1°Vi18'R 27°Le32'R 8°Sg59' 8°Ge59' 7.4.1862 27°Le37'R 25°Le19'R 5°Sg57'D 5°Ge57'D 7.5.1862 25°Le38'R 24°Le01'R 3°Sg54'D 3°Ge54'D 6.6.1862 26°Le18' 24°Le12' 3°Sg16' 3°Ge16' 6.7.1862 29°Le21' 25°Le51' 3°Sg06'D 3°Ge06'D 5.8.1862 4°Vi09' 28°Le37' 2°Sg13'D 2°Ge13'D 4.9.1862 10°Vi03' 2°Vi05' 29°Sc55' 29°Ta55' 4.10.1862 16°Vi28' 5°Vi48' 26°Sc53' 26°Ta53' 3.11.1862 22°Vi51' 9°Vi16' 24°Sc43' 24°Ta43' 3.12.1862 28°Vi35' 11°Vi58' 24°Sc10' 24°Ta10' 2.1.1863 2°Li59' 13°Vi26' 24°Sc07'D 24°Ta07'D 1.2.1863 5°Li15' 13°Vi19'R 22°Sc47' 22°Ta47' 3.3.1863 4°Li48'R 11°Vi45'R 19°Sc44' 19°Ta44' 2.4.1863 1°Li54'R 9°Vi28'R 16°Sc38' 16°Ta38' 2.5.1863 28°Vi11'R 7°Vi32'R 15°Sc08' 15°Ta08' 1.6.1863 25°Vi46'R 6°Vi47' 15°Sc00'D 15°Ta00'D 1.7.1863 25°Vi53' 7°Vi31' 14°Sc42' 14°Ta42' 31.7.1863 28°Vi30' 9°Vi36' 13°Sc00' 13°Ta00'
