The news from the UK suggests the situation is quite difficult. That said, we should nuance that interpretation.

At the present time, there are many planets weak in transit, giving people the sense that things are not well. Moreover, in the chart, there is an affliction of natal Ketu in the UK chart to transit stationary 4th lord Jupiter. This explains ther reported strain on homeowners, with many on the verge of losing their homes or having already done so. Their problems may be traced to rising unemployment and income shortfalls from the recession. Associated with this aspect there is also news coming out of Britain about tensions in communal harmony, with racial issues becoming divisive.

The recession itself unfolded and became difficult in the Mars-Saturn period, which ended on June 28, 2009 in the chart. The ruler of working people, Saturn, is also 6th lord of financial stability in the chart. It is badly placed and weak in the 12th house of losses. For the past two and half years, it was transiting the sign Leo and 12th house. During this time the largest financial crisis in the past 70 years rocked the country, with a recession unfolding with rising unemployment.

The good news is that the Mars-Mercury period has been running since July and Saturn entered Virgo in September. This change promises gradual relief, in part based on the efforts of the government but also from business activities in communication and transportation. Entrepreneurship in these areas would be doing fine when Mercury is strong in transit.

There is an interesting story I omitted to mention, which is perhaps best reflective of the transits and in line with the prediction made. This is the heated debate in Britain since yesterday over British Nationalist Party leader Nick Griffin, whose appearance on Question Time on the BBC has stirred up quite a controversy, with over 8 million viewers tuned into the program.

The UK economy unexpectedly contracted by 0.4% between July and September, according to official figures, meaning the country is still in recession. It is the first time UK gross domestic product (GDP) has contracted for six consecutive quarters, since quarterly figures were first recorded in 1955.

Since June 2009, the Mars-Mercury period has been operating, having been in the difficult Mars-Saturn period from May 2008, when the greatest problems befell the economy. This is making things vulnerable all over. Moreover, transit 8th lord Mars is now conjunt natal 4th lord Jupiter at 10Â° Cancer and aspecting transit 12th lord Sun in the 2nd house.
