Hello dear Jolastro,

 

You are right, this is quite a conumdrum. I don´t know what to make of it. Perhaps the birth time is wrong? Perhaps, this change is not something Mr. van Rompuy wanted and represents a grave burden for him. The coming transits do not look easy in the 22° Sagittarius rising chart.

 

It is of special interest that his election (by his peers, not a popular vote) has been criticised for reducing the status of the new office of the President of the EU Council.

 

Van Rompuy is known to be a 'behind the scenes' kind of personality and one to seek compromise based on the criteria that an agreement that leads to one side being a 'loser' can never be considered a good agreement.

 

He is also known as an opponent to the entry of muslim state Turkish into the EU based on religious grounds. He says the values of Europe are Christian and that these are incompatible with the values of the muslim world, including in the most Western of the muslim states, Turkey. Needless to say, his appointment has been very poorly received in Turkey.

Hello list,

 

The new President of the Council of the European Union (EU) is named Herman Van Rompuy. Since December 2008 and until now, Herman has been Prime Minister of Belgium. His major accomplishment was to quickly bring an end to a long simmering conflict.

As such he is a consenus builder. He also seems to be universally liked. This is consistent with a Sagittarius rising sign, which he is reported to have. The chart is attached.

Overall the chart looks quite weak. 22° Sagittarius is rising, with 1st lord Jupiter badly placed in the 12th house. This would explain his somewhat reserved nature. He did not promote himself for this job. His 9th lord Sun is debilitated but well placed in the 11th house. Giving some fortune for income, however, with potential for setbacks. His 3rd lord Saturn and a debilitated 5th lord Mars are badly placed in Cancer and the 8th house, suggesting obstacles for his initiatives and management.

 

Transit Rahu, which is presently at 29° Sagittarius, will in a few weeks become stationary at 27° Sagittarius and will remain so for a couple of months. During that time, transit Ketu will afflict his 10th lord Mercury at 26° Libra and his 11th lord Venus at 29° Libra. Both planets, as well as the Sun, are quite weak in the 11th house given the old age of Venus. According to this chart there would shortly be grave strains in his career and involving his ideals. Setbacks are possible in these areas, if this birth time is correct for him.
