Guest guest
Hello dear list members, Greece was hit by a financial crisis last year like most other countries. In recent weeks, the problems have again become a concern. Greece's Papandreou: financial crisis threatens sovereignty 10/12/2009 - ATHENS, Greece -- Prime Minister George Papandreou warned on Wednesday (December 9th) that Greece's financial woes pose a risk to national sovereignty for the first time since the reinstatement of democracy in 1974. "We are decided to do everything that is within our powers to get the budget deficit properly under control, to restore stability of public finances and to continue development. This is the only way for Greece not to lose its right of sovereignty," Papandreou said. Greece, a member of the eurozone, has been heavily criticised for its rapidly expanding deficit, now estimated at 12.7% of GDP. On Monday, the rating agency Standard & Poors announced it has put Greece on a negative credit watch. http://www.setimes.com/cocoon/setimes/xhtml/en_GB/newsbriefs/setimes/newsbriefs/2009/12/10/nb-02 One potential chart for modern Greece, which is rarely mentioned, is the plebescite that was held on December 8, 1974 establishing the Hellenic Republic. In lieu of a time for the close of polls I posit a 10.00 pm time giving 26° Cancer rising. 1st lord Moon is well placed in the 3rd house but adversely influenced by its dispositor, Mercury, being exactly afflicted by Rahu (and Ketu) at 17° Scorpio and 5th house. 2nd lord Sun is supremely strong and unafflicted at 22° Scorpio and 5th house. This placement gives strength and creativity to the leader of the government. It is also consistent with the fame bestowed by ancient Greece. The 10th lord Mars is also strong there, boosting the military and police and international trade. Many international companies have their regional headquarters in Greece. In this chart, critical placements include Saturn as 8th lord of obstacles at 24° Gemini and 12th house of losses and Jupiter as 6th lord of financial stability at 16° Aquarius and 8th house of obstacles. The present nodal station at 27° Sagittarius/Gemini is afflicting the Saturn placement. The Jupiter major period began in 1999. Since July 2007, the sub-period of Venus is operating. 4th lord Venus is placed in infancy in Sagittarius and 6th house of financial (in)stability. This chart explains well the riots that broke out on December 6, 2008 and lasted for most of the month. Resulting in clashes between rioters and police. If this chart is anything to go by, the coming months will be difficult, given the nodal stationary affliction of 8th lord Saturn in the 12th house and transit of Jupiter in 8th house. If list members can check out the news papers in early December 1974 for details on the closing of the polls that would be very helpful. That said, the sign Cancer is found to be rising from 7:50PM to 10:15PM. Thor Wikipedia information about Greece Hellenic Republic http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellenic_Republic Greek republic referendum, 1974 The Greek plebiscite of December 8, 1974 resulted in the final abolition of the monarchy in Greece and the establishment of the current Third Hellenic Republic. After the collapse of the military junta that ruled the country from 1967, the issue of the form of government remained unsolved. The Junta had already staged a plebiscite the year before, which resulted in the establishment of the Republic (see Metapolitefsi). However, after the fall of the military regime, the new government, under Constantine Karamanlis, decided to hold another one, as Junta legal acts were considered illegal. The results of the plebiscite were significantly in favour of the abolition of the monarchy. To date it is the last national referendum to be held in Greece. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_republic_referendum,_1974 Greek riots of December 2008 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_riots 2 of 2 Photo(s)
