Hello dear friends,

It is hard to follow the situation in China as it is so far away and the media coverage is somewhat spotty, not least due to the efforts of the authorities to manipulate the discussion. Today we get news that there are protests in Hong Kong. These protests were signalled in late December, at the time when China put its best known dissident on trial, which was shortly thereafter sentenced to a long prison term.

Hong Kong democracy activists take a gamble

Dec 22, 2009 07:14 PM US/Eastern

HONG KONG (AP) - Frustrated by an indifferent public, some of Hong Kong's democracy activists are preparing to take a political risk. Two pro-democracy parties say five of their members will resign from the legislature next month to force special elections for their seats. They hope to turn the vote into a referendum on their cause and put fresh pressure on Beijing to allow electoral reform. But it could backfire: Given the current public mood, they well could

lose.

Anger in China over web censorship

14:54 GMT, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 15:54 UK

China has delayed a plan requiring all new computers sold in the country to be equipped with internet filtering software. The Green Dam software has become a major topic of discussion in the blogosphere.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8124735.stm

Such developments are consistent with the rising degree in the newly rectified and tentative birth chart for China being late Capricorn, as the transit station of the nodes around 27° Sagittarius and Gemini is then afflicting the 6th and 12th houses in the chart, reflecting also the natal afflictions.

Hello list,

As part of the work of rectifying a chart for China, the following predictions made based on the chart are recalled.

The futureLooking forward, we can note that the chart is running the Mercury - Rahu period until December 11, 2011. From December 2009 to February 2010, transit Rahu will be stationary at around 27° Sagittarius in the 12th house. In that degree it will be conjunct natal 2nd lord Saturn at 25° Sagittarius. At that time, the dispositor of Saturn and Rahu, transit 12th lord Jupiter will be placed in Aquarius and the 2nd house. Moreover, transit 2nd lord Saturn at 10° Virgo will be conjunct natal Ketu in the 9th house. This suggests a crisis having to do with China's status, wealth or relations with neighbors. As Jupiter is natally placed in the 7th house, a foreign policy issue is likely. Moreover, as Rahu natally afflicts 4th lord Mars, some problems for the military and police cannot be excluded, especially as transit Mars will be stationary at 24° Cancer, were it is debilitated and conjunct natal Jupiter.

A major earthquake is also possible at this time.

http://cosmologer.blogspot.com/2009/10/birth-of-modern-china.html

Special note: the rising degree is likely later than originally suggested. It is perhaps closer to 27° Capricorn rather than 23°. This would suggest the present nodal station at 27° Sagittarius and Gemini will be more keenly felt than was the station of 12th lord Jupiter at 23° Capricorn this past autumn.

Hello dear list,

The following event is making China look bad in the eyes of the world, at least where democracy reigns, and is also likely to upset those within China desiring more freedoms.

Beijing, China (CNN) -- Prominent Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo, who was arrested in 1989 for his role in the Tiananmen Square protest, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for his role in a separate subversion case, his lawyer said Friday.

Mercury-Rahu period is operating. Transit 9th lord (freedom) Mercury and transit stationary Rahu (manipulation) are conjunct in the MEP of the 12th house (incarceration, losses) on top of natal 2nd lord Saturn (status). Transit Moon, as 7th lord of foreign policy, was conjunct natal Rahu (manipulation) in the 3rd house of communicating with the people when the sentence was handed down.

When presenting the rectified late Capricorn rising chart for communist China, it was noted that the natal aspect of Rahu to 4th lord Mars in the 11th house of ideals suggested the communication and actions of the government could have an influence to undermine their well being. With the natal 7th lord Moon also conjunct the nodal axis, such actions would also tend to undermine the foreign policy of China. In view of the natal aspects, as well as the present transit station of Rahu and Ketu in the prosed MEP of the 12th and 6th houses of the chart, a backlash to this event is likely to develop.

Hello list,

In an ongoing effort, as part of the work to rectifiy a chart for China, some headline news involving the country are posted.

China Raises Banks’ Reserve Ratio to Cool Economy

Jan. 12 (Bloomberg) -- China unexpectedly raised the proportion of deposits that banks must set aside as reserves to cool the world’s fastest-growing major economy as a credit boom threatens to stoke inflation and create asset bubbles. Reserve requirements will increase by 50 basis points starting Jan. 18, the central bank said on its Web site this evening. The existing level for big banks is 15.5 percent. The move wasn’t anticipated until at least April, according to the median of 11 forecasts in a Bloomberg News survey four days ago. The decision indicates increasing concern in Premier Wen Jiabao’s government that a continuation of the record 9.21 trillion yuan ($1.3 trillion) of loans in the first 11 months of 2009 will create a bubble in property and stock prices. It also follows two bill auctions by the central bank in the past week where officials guided yields higher, auguring higher borrowing

costs.

Jim Chanos says China crash will be Dubai x1000

ArabianMoney.Net - January 12, 2010 at 9:15 am

Yesterday China raised its benchmark interest rates higher for the first time in 20 weeks to put a break on runaway bank lending that has fueled its stock market and property boom, and stimulated the economy to accommodate a 16 per cent crash in total exports in 2009. Is this the start of the end for the investment bubble in China? Jim Chanos is betting on it.

http://arabianmoney.net/2010/01/12/jim-chanos-says-china-crash-will-be-dubai-x1000/

Evidently, there is growing concern that China is facing significant fiancial imbalances which could lead to a colossal correction.

As noted before, in the proposed tentative chart for China, the present nodal station is taking place in the 12th and 6th houses, on top of natal 2nd lord Saturn in the 12th house. If this is an authentic chart, another question is if the MEP is in a late degree or not.

Google May Exit China After Ending Self-Censorship

Jan. 13 (Bloomberg) -- Google Inc. defied the Chinese government by saying it will end self-censorship of its search engine and may quit the world’s largest Internet market after attacks on e-mail accounts of human-rights activists. A series of “highly sophisticated†attacks on Google and at least 20 other companies last month, as well as limits on free speech, led to the decision, Google said in a statement on its Web log. Images of the 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown were among previously censored results visible on Google.cn today.

Hello dear list members,

The US- China relations are still strained and China is now suggesting it is moving to distance its self further from the USA.

China foreign minister says U.S. ties "disrupted"

BEIJING - Sat Mar 6, 2010 11:22pm EST

BEIJING (Reuters) - Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said on Sunday that relations with the United States had been "seriously disrupted," after a rise in friction between the two big powers. "The responsibility does not lie with China," said Yang, speaking at a news conference on the sidelines of the annual session of China's parliament. Beijing and Washington have recently gone through a rough patch, with quarrels in January and February over Chinese Internet censorship, trade disputes, U.S. arms sales to Taiwan, and President Barack Obama's meeting with the Dalai Lama, the exiled Tibetan leader. The United States "must respect China's core interests" on Taiwan and Tibet, Yang added. "I believe the United States understands very well China's core interests and major concerns. "China has always attached importance to its relationship with the United States," he said. "Resolutely adhering to one's

principled stance is not the same thing as being hardline." But the two big trade partners appear to want to lower the temperature of the disputes as they also grapple with how to deal with how to deal with Iran and North Korea. Beijing has not yet acted on its threat to sanction U.S. companies involved in the arms sales to Taiwan, the self-ruled island that Beijing claims as part of its territory. Last weekend, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said he wanted trade friction with the United States to ease.

Beijing studies severing peg to US dollar

FT.com - March 7 2010 19:24

China’s central bank chief laid the groundwork for an appreciation of the renminbi at the weekend when he described the current dollar peg as temporary, striking a more emollient tone after months of tough opposition in Beijing to a shift in exchange rate policy. Zhou Xiaochuan, governor of the People’s Bank of China, gave the strongest hint yet from a senior official that China would abandon the unofficial dollar peg, in place since mid-2008. He said it was a “special†policy to weather the financial crisis. Chinese foreign minister Yang Jiechi arrives for a press conference on Sunday in Beijing

http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/6cd3a766-2925-11df-972b-00144feabdc0.html

This is consistent with the prediction of "a crisis having to do with China's status, wealth or relations with neighbors" at this time.

HONG KONG (AP) - Frustrated by an indifferent public, some of Hong Kong 's democracy activists are preparing to take a political risk. Two pro-democracy parties say five of their members will resign from the legislature next month to force special elections for their seats. They hope to turn the vote into a referendum on their cause and put fresh pressure on Beijing to allow electoral reform. But it could backfire: Given the current public mood, they well could lose.

Anger in China over web censorship

14:54 GMT, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 15:54 UK

China has delayed a plan requiring all new computers sold in the country to be equipped with internet filtering software. The Green Dam software has become a major topic of discussion in the blogosphere.

U.S. government has pressed for Liu's release
