Hello list,

A radio show that created quite a stir in the USA gives an interesting insight into the transits and period dynamics of the SAMVA USA chart. This episode is mentioned in the article Jupiter and World War II but not explored astrologically. This is remedied here.

"The War of the Worlds" episode was aired on American radio and became famous for giving an overly realistic portrayal of alien invasion. It was performed as a Halloween episode of the series at 8:00 pm EST, on October 30, 1938, at 485 Madison Avenue, New York. The show aired over the Columbia Broadcasting System radio network and was directed and narrated by Orson Welles. The episode was an adaptation of H. G. Wells' famous novel The War of the Worlds.[3] The first two thirds of the 60-minute broadcast was presented as a series of simulated news bulletins, which suggested to many listeners that an actual Martian invasion was in progress. Compounding the issue was the fact that the Mercury Theatre on the Air was a 'sustainin show' (it ran without commercial breaks), thus adding to the dramatic effect. Although there were sensationalist accounts in the press about a supposed panic in response

to the broadcast, the precise extent of listener response has been debated. In the days following the adaptation, however, there was widespread outrage. The program's news-bulletin format was decried as cruelly deceptive by some newspapers and public figures, leading to an outcry against the perpetrators of the broadcast, but the episode launched Orson Welles to fame.[4]http://cosmologer.blogspot.com/2010/01/jupiter-and-world-war-ii.html

The thing to consider is the startling entertainment program that created sudden mass panic and an uproar of controversy afterwards. At the same time, it was highly entertaining and launched the career of a star noted for his impressive personality and authority, Orson Welles.

Jupiter-Jupiter period was operating. Jupiter is 6th lord placed in the 5th house of entertainment. Transit Jupiter was debilitated in old age in Capricorn and 7th house, under the aspect of natal 8th lord Saturn. Such an aspect can bring obstacles of controversy. Transit stationary Ketu at 24° 50' Aries was aspecting natal 4th lord Venus at 23° 50' Sagittarius in the 6th house. A sudden event startled and frightened people. Transit stationary Saturn as 8th lord of obstacles was at 19° Pisces and in the MEP of the 9th house. From there, Saturn aspects the 6th house of conflict, the 11th house of ideals and 3rd house of communication. Transit Sun as 2nd lord was at 14° Libra and 4th house and within conjunction aspect of natal Ketu. Finally, transit 3rd lord Mercury was conjunct transit Rahu in Libra and 4th house. Rahu represents the manipulation involving the lord of

communication, Mercury.

There were also positive aspects in play. Transit 4th lord Venus was conjunct 10th lord Mars in the 5th house, suggesting an enjoyable spectacle. Transit 1st lord Moon was conjunct natal 3rd lord Mercury in the 7th house, suggesting the communication theme was much to the liking of the audience. Transit 10th lord Mars was well placed in Virgo and 3rd house, adding to the energy of the play.
