An earthquake has struck in the USA. While it was rather powerful it did not cause serious injuries or damages.

 

Some effort has been put into identifying the causes of earthquakes. It has proved a challenge to predict them with pinpoint accuracy as many factors come into play, which ultimately explain the location, size and impact of the event. However, a study of past such events shows that there are salient astrological factors and this is true also for the SAMVA USA chart. The earthquake at this time is clearly seen in terms of Venus, as 4th lord of land and natural resources, being badly placed, both natally and in transit, while also being afflicted by the transit stationary nodal axis in the 6th and 12th houses (see attached chart).

 

6.5 earthquake strikes off California coast

Earthquake in northern California, near Eureka, at 00:27 a.m. UT on January 9, 2010. A 6.5-magnitude earthquake has struck off the shore of Northern California, leaving thousands of households without power. The quake, which ran about 13.5 miles deep, hit offshore at 4:27 p.m. (7:27 p.m. ET) Saturday, about 33 miles from the coastal city of Eureka, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. About 28,000 customers, most of them in Humboldt County, were left without power Saturday evening. One gas leak was reported.

Venus-Saturn period is operating. The transit influences in order of signficance:

1. Transit 4th lord Venus at 26° Sagittarius is conjunct transit stationary Rahu at 27° Sagittarius. Both planets are conjunct natal Venus at 24° Sagittarius. In other words, both transit and natal Venus are afflicted and badly placed.

2. Transit 6th lord Jupiter is badly placed in the 8th house.

3. Transit 2nd lord Sun at 26° Sagittarius is also conjunct transit stationary Rahu.

 

We could also note the transit of sub-period lord Saturn at 10° Virgo and 3rd house. As 8th lord in the chart it is now aspecting natal 10th lord Mars. All such aspects may contribute in some way or another. Fortunately, Mars is natally strong and hence the influence of such an asepct is reduced and their power to cause setbacks. However, in the case of Venus, it is weak natally, and hence vulnerable to transit afflictions. Fortunately, the aspect of the transit station of the nodes is with a 3° orb reducing the influence. However, the conjunction of the nodal axis with transit Venus at the time of the earthquake was very close.
