Five scientists presented a paper during the 18th Caribbean Geological Conference in March 2008 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, stating that a fault zone on the south side of the island posed "a major seismic hazard."

There are two points that could be brought out more clearly:

 

- Transit stationary Rahu is afflicting closely the 4th house. This is adding to the affliction by natal Ketu of the transit debilitated 4th lord Mars

- Transit Mercury is not only afflicted and badly placed, but it is in a severely afflicted 12th house of losses. As 9th lord, it is the dispositor of transit and natal Saturn in the 9th house.

When I run this data:  January

1, 1804, 1:51 PM , Gonaives, 72W41, 19N27, I get Aries rising sign at 25:30

degrees.

 

I then saw that Jorge was using GMT and not EST…. so I assume

it is okay to use GMT?

The tragedy that struck Haiti is of an almost unbelievable magnitude. There are rescue teams being sent from different parts of the world. Hopefully, they can quickly reach and rescue those still alive in the rubble. My prayers go out to the many people affected by this enormous disaster.

 

I have also given this chart, which has given such a convincing fit to this event, a closer look in terms of the natal potential and also two earlier such events, if it may help to establish an authentic chart for the country.

 

It seems 4th lord Mars is badly placed and combust in the 12th house. While it is accompanied by 8th lord Sun they are not conjunct. 9th lord Mercury is also placed natally in this house and combust in addition to the bad placement. Along with the nodes afflicting all the odd numbered houses, this could help to explain the poverty of the people. With Saturn as 2nd lord placed in the 9th house, there would be some good karma for status and wealth, but the weakness and bad placement of Mercury reduces that. Moreover, the affliction of the 1st house, and placement of 12th lord Jupiter in the 10th house, reduce the benefit of having 10th lord Venus well placed in the 1st house, which is powerfully afflicted natally.

 

I examined two earlier events of a similar nature, based on sketchy information. The astrology seems to indicate such outcomes, mostly through the involvement of the 12th lord, which is the dispositor of the 4th lord in the chart.

 

May 7, 1842 - An earthquake destroyed the city of Cap-Haïtien and other cities in the northern part of Haiti, as well as in the Dominican Republic.

 

Astrology of the event:

Mars-Jupiter period is operating.

Transit stationary, debilitated and infanct 12th lord Jupiter conjunct transit stationary FM Rahu and opposite transit stationary Ketu.
