WW II: the final year

As part of my ongoing historical investigations into the SAMVA USA chart (Perpetual Union), I looked at the episode in WWII leading up to the Normandy invasion on D-day on June 7, 1944 and the ten months until the end of the war in Europe in late April 1945. As seen in the accompanying ephemeris table, there was a non-stop run of difficult transits for this entire time, not to speak of the difficult period operating, that of Jupiter-Ketu. Ketu represents sudden, explosive or violent events and separation, estrangement or isolation. It natally afflicts the 4th house of communal harmony, the 8th house of death and 12th house of losses.

In early 1944, transit Ketu was stationary conjunct natal 3rd lord Mercury at 12° Capricorn and 7th house. This was a period of tremendous effort to build up munitions and troops in the UK prior to invasion over the Channel. As D-day approached, transit 6th lord Jupiter went stationary in opposition to natal 2nd lord Sun, indicating the strain of the conflict for the US President and government leaders. We can recall that President Roosevelt had only one year left to live at this point. Photos of him in the last year of his life show him to be sickly, very much consumed by the great struggles he undertook, first to get the nation out of depression and then to get it successfully through the most difficult foreign war for the USA up to that point. As D-day rolled around transit Rahu had become stationary at 5° Cancer in exact mutual aspect with natal Jupiter at 4° 25' Scorpio. The casualties and losses endured in the invasion of France

are staggering. By September 1944, transit 8th lord Saturn had become stationary at 18° Gemini and 12th house, where it received a close afflicting aspect from natal Ketu, This is a classic aspect of difficulty in the USA chart. At the same time, transit Saturn aspected transit Jupiter - indicating violence endured in the national life. Finally, in early 1945, the nodes had become transit stationary on top of natal 4th lord Venus and this shows the strain the war, in the final stretch, placed on the collective sentiments. It probably also indicates the strain to the women folk from the accumulating war time losses. The Venus sub-period began on March 26, 1945 and it was only a couple of weeks later that President Roosevelt died and a few more weeks until the war was won and the two protagonists of this tragedy met their end; with Hitler shooting himself while Mussolini was caught on the run and hanged.

 

A closer study of the events would undoubtedly be helpful, but the transit and period influences are consistent enough with the major known events of this time. Again, the SAMVA USA chart explains the historical development to a striking degree.
