China-USA problems

Hello list,

There is an interesting problem that has brewed between the Chinese government and US internet companies. The problem is the recent criticism of internet giant Google of the Chinese government's efforts to violate human rights (freedom to speech), a 3rd house issue. Google has refused to continue to provide adjustments to its software enabling the government to curb free speech on the internet. Now another US software company, , has entered the controversy and taken sides with Google. The controversy is potentially undermining China's status in the world, a 2nd house indication.

criticised by Alibaba for 'reckless' China stance

16:52 GMT, Saturday, 16 January 2010

's partner in China has called the US internet giant "reckless" for supporting Google in its stand-off with Beijing over alleged cyber-attacks. said it was "aligned" with Google's position that the violation of internet privacy was deeply disturbing and something that had to be opposed. But an Alibaba Group spokesman said on Saturday it did not "share this view". Beijing has tried to play down Google's threat to pull out of China because of attacks by hackers and censorship. In what correspondents say is an unusual move, the US state department said on Friday that it was to make a formal protest about the incident to China's government and demand an explanation.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/8463413.stm

The issue is also highly relevant as seen in the SAMVA USA chart. Mercury is 3rd lord in the SAMVA USA chart, where it is natally placed in the 7th house of foreign policy. It is very interesting that US companies in the communications business, ruled by Mercury and the 3rd house, are actually involved in promoting freedom of speech, another 3rd house indication, in a major foreign country. As such, the companies are directly engaged in a foreign policy matter, a 7th house issue. Transit Mercury is also presently transiting the 6th house of conflict! Moreover, sub-period lord Saturn is currently transiting the 3rd house of communication, ruled by Mercury.

Another difficult problem facing China is the possible over-expansion of the economy, which threatens to generate inflation and may have produced an asset bubble.

China's central bank moves to curb overheating economy

16:46 GMT, Tuesday, 12 January 2010

China's central bank has stepped in to curb lending in its banking system. Chinese banks must now keep more money back in reserves, the first such increase since June 2008, thereby taking cash out of the economy. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao recently urged banks to curb lending, saying they needed to be "more balanced". China is concerned about inflation and potential asset bubbles - in stocks and property - forming in its booming economy.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/8454531.stm

Runaway inflation reduces the purchasing capacity of people and the value of the wealth. An asset bubble that bursts can crash the economy and destroy untold wealth. In the propsed late Capricorn rising chart, Saturn as 2nd lord is badly placed and weak in the 12th house, which rules losses. Currently, Saturn is closely afflicted by the nodal station at 27° Sagittarius/Gemini, which would be expected to bring signficant problems to its indications.

One question is if the present problems are conistent with the chart and if they are of the magnitude expected. The answer to the first question is yes. The problems are certainly consistent with the indications seen. The second question is more open to debate. There is a question if we would expect to see greater such problems or an outright setback to the status and wealth of the country, relations with neigboring countries, communal harmoy or structures, etc.

In this regard, we may also note the influence of the faster moving planets. Transit 8th lord Sun and transit 11th lord Venus have recently moved out of the 12th house, reducing the strain related to their indications. However, as 10th lord Mercury is still in the 12th house, and it is the dispositor of transit Saturn, we can note that it will become conjunct the nodal axis in early February. Perhaps the problems for the government associated with such issues would become greater at that time, as Mercury is a general indicator of IT and communication issues. Other such nodal and 12th house problems could also crop up linked to the indications of Saturn and 2nd house while the nodes are closely conjunct natal Saturn.

Hello list,

In a recent message, on the question on a chart for China, I noted the following:

The Ketu period from 2016 [in the late Capricorn rising chart] would bring sudden problems for foreign policy, as Ketu is natally conjunct 7th lord Moon in the 9th house. This is the time frame when the Sun period begins in the SAMVA USA chart, consistent with its renewed international prominence.

Well, the following columnist, who has proved to be quite prescient and straight talking, thinks a conflict is brewing between the two giants:

Why America and China will clash

Google’s clash with China is about much more than the fate of a single, powerful firm. The company’s decision to pull out of China, unless the government there changes its policies on censorship, is a harbinger of increasingly stormy relations between the US and China.

The reason that the Google case is so significant is because it suggests that the assumptions on which US policy to China have been based since the Tiananmen massacre of 1989 could be plain wrong. The US has accepted – even welcomed – China’s emergence as a giant economic power because American policymakers convinced themselves that economic opening would lead to political liberalisation in China.

If that assumption changes, American policy towards China could change with it. Welcoming the rise of a giant Asian economy that is also turning into a liberal democracy is one thing. Sponsoring the rise of a Leninist one-party state, that is America’s only plausible geopolitical rival, is a different proposition. Combine this political disillusionment with double-digit unemployment in the US that is widely blamed on Chinese currency manipulation, and you have the formula for an anti-China backlash. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/e9306da0-0461-11df-8603-00144feabdc0.html

I guess, we will have to wait and see what coming years hold..

Hello list,

Here is a news story about more tension between the USA and China

China suspends military exchanges with US

Associated Press – -January 30, 2010 - 1 hr 1 min ago

BEIJING – China suspended military exchange visits with the United States on Saturday in protest over $6.4 billion in planned U.S. arms sales to Taiwan and warned the U.S. ambassador that the sales would harm already strained ties. The state-run Xinhua News Agency cited the Defense Ministry as saying the suspension is due to the "severe harm" of the arms sales on the two countries' military relations. China took a similar step in 2008 after the former Bush administration announced a multibillion-dollar arms sale to Taiwan — the most sensitive issue in U.S.-China

relations. The latest arms sales could complicate the cooperation the U.S. seeks on issues ranging from Iran's nuclear program to the loosening of Internet controls, including a Google-China standoff over censorship.

http://news./s/ap/20100130/ap_on_re_as/as_china_us_taiwan_arms_sales

In the SAMVA USA chart, with Mercury as 3rd lord of speech and action, as well as communication and analysis, placed in the 7th house of others and foreign policy, it is normal for the USA to fight for freedom of speech and action. In the first Mercury period, 1853-1869, the US fought a civil (domestic) war to emancipate the slaves so that they would enjoy the freedoms enshrined in the US Constitution. In the second Mercury period from 1973-1989, the US fought to extend these freedoms around the world, notably in relation to the Soviet Union, resulting in the collapse of Soviet Communism in 1989. As such this energy was prominent then, but it is also a part of the natal potential of the country, and hence ever present, and more so when the transits are influencing. The present conflict with China is more to be seen as a reaction of China to the ever present influence of the USA. However, in the SAMVA USA chart, 3rd lord Merucury is

passing through the 6th house of conflict and has been transit afflicted by natal Rahu and is now becoming transit afflicted by transit stationary Rahu.

As for China, in the tentative chart rectified based on the founding of the Chinese Soviet Republic in 1931, the nodes are afflicting natal 2nd lord Saturn in the 12th house of foreign matters and losses.

Hello list,

China seems to be having a hard time trying to restrict the freedom of other countries, including the USA.

China warns Obama not to meet Dalai Lama

BBC News, Beijing - 09:57 GMT, Tuesday, 2 February 2010

China has warned the US president that it will harm ties between the two countries if he meets the Dalai Lama. Chinese Communist Party official Zhu Weiqun said there would be "corresponding action" if the meeting went ahead. The White House has indicated that Barack Obama intends to meet the head of Tibetans in exile.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/8492608.stm

Is this a problem for the USA or China, or both?

While there are some problems seen for the USA as per the SAMVA USA chart at the present time, including the

- aspect of transit Saturn as 8th lord of obstacles in the 3rd house of action to natal Mars as 10th lord of the executive government and foreign trade in the 5th house of management.

- conjunction of transit FM Rahu to Venus as 4th lord of communal harmony and fixed assets in the house of conflict and financial stability

while the latter aspect could be associated with some developments that disturb the communal harmony, a major crisis is not seen at the present time in the USA.

By comparison, in the tentative Capricorn rising chart for China the transit nodes are afflicting natal Saturn as 2nd lord of status in the 12th house of foreign matters and losses. This aspect suggests a setback to the status of China in the world, except perhaps in remote or isolated countries like Iran and North Korea.

Interesting times.

Hello dear list members,

The USA and China have been at odds over numerous issues in recent months, including human rights in China, US military aid to Taiwan, growing US debt and, now, the high government controlled value of the Chines currency, the yuan. There has been a low key crisis in diplomatic relations, which is made more difficult given the need for good relations between these increasingly interdependent nations.

Leave yuan to us, China tells Obama

BEIJING (Reuters) – The United States should not make a political issue out of the yuan, a Chinese central banker said on Friday, as the two countries lurched toward a potential bust-up over Beijing's currency regime. The latest rhetorical salvoes underlined how long-running friction caused by the yuan's de facto dollar peg could come to a head next month when President Barack Obama's administration decides whether to brand China as a "currency manipulator." People's Bank of China Vice Governor Su Ning said the United States should look to itself to boost exports and not cast blame on other countries, when asked to comment on remarks on Thursday by Obama, who called on China to move

to a "more market-oriented exchange rate.We always refuse to politicize the yuan exchange rate issue, and we never think that one country should ask another country for help in solving its own problems," he said. Obama's rare comment about the currency comes as his administration mulls whether to use the "currency manipulator" label in a semi-annual Treasury Department report due on April 15, which could set in train punitive actions against China. With Obama facing domestic pressure to take a tough line against China and Beijing clinging to its dollar peg, the report could act as a tipping point.

Birth of modern China

...

The major elements in the natal potential of the chart are as follows:

- 2nd lord Saturn is [25 27' Sagittarius] in the MEP of the 12th house of losses and foreign things. By itself, this is not a good placement for status, wealth or relations with neighboring countries.

...

The futureLooking forward, we can note that the chart is running the Mercury - Rahu period until December 11, 2011. From December 2009 to February 2010, transit Rahu will be stationary at around 27° Sagittarius in the 12th house. In that degree it will be conjunct natal 2nd lord Saturn at 25° Sagittarius. At that time, the dispositor of Saturn and Rahu, transit 12th lord Jupiter will be placed in Aquarius and the 2nd house. Moreover, transit 2nd lord Saturn at 10° Virgo will be conjunct natal Ketu in the 9th house. This suggests a crisis having to do with China's status, wealth or relations with neighbors.

http://cosmologer.blogspot.com/2009/10/birth-of-modern-china.html

Transit Rahu is currently at 25° 27' Sagittarius and 12th house. We are also followin the rising sign degree for the China chart, with it presently and tentatively set at 25° 29' Scorpio. The good news is that Rahu is now moving at normal speed in transit, would be expected to lessen the strain going forward.

China took a similar step in 2008 after the former Bush administration announced a multibillion-dollar arms sale to Taiwan — the most sensitive issue in U.S.-China relations. The latest arms sales could complicate the cooperation the U.S. seeks on issues ranging from Iran's nuclear program to the loosening of Internet controls, including a Google-China standoff over

censorship.

China PM defends assertive trade, foreign policy

Associated Press – March 14, 2010 - 25 mins ago

BEIJING – China vowed Sunday to remain alert to any renewed signs of economic crisis and forcefully defended its currency, trade and more assertive foreign policies as helping global rebalancing, not undermining it. Premier Wen Jiabao repeatedly took issue with United States, whose relations with Beijing have soured in recent months. To U.S. criticisms that China keeps its currency undervalued and thus harms U.S. exports, Wen said Beijing opposed "finger-pointing or taking strong measures to force" a readjustment of the yuan. Likewise,

he said the recent White House reception to Tibet's exiled Dalai Lama and U.S. arms sale to Taiwan "caused serious disturbance in relations."

The USA and China have been at odds over numerous issues in recent months, including human rights in China, US military aid to Taiwan, growing US debt and, now, the high government controlled value of the Chines currency, the yuan. Hello list,

The ongoing problems in US - China relations seem to run fairly deep among US lawmakers.

US lawmakers attack China ahead of Nov. elections

Associated Press Writer Foster Klug, Associated Press Writer – 49 mins ago

WASHINGTON – China is once again the country Congress loves to hate. After a lull last year, U.S. politicians jockeying ahead of crucial November elections have stepped up attacks on China as a way to win support from voters worried that the Asian power is taking American jobs. China-bashing eased during President Barack Obama's first year in office, partly as a nod to the administration's attempts to get Chinese help settling nuclear standoffs with North

Korea and Iran, and on important environmental and economic initiatives. Now, with little to show from Obama's charm offensive and a looming make-or-break election, lawmakers want tough action against what manufacturers say is a Chinese currency policy that hurts millions of American workers by making Chinese products cheaper and U.S. products more expensive. U.S.-China ties are already battered following the recent announcement of a multibillion dollar U.S. arms sale to Chinese rival Taiwan and a meeting between Obama and the Dalai Lama, revered by millions but accused by Beijing of pushing for Tibetan independence. Attacks on China might add more irritation to a relationship the White House portrays as the world's most important and most complicated. American politicians, however, have calculated that raising China as an economic boogeyman can help them connect with voters afraid of losing work to foreign competitors. "They take our markets and take our jobs," Democratic Sen. Arlen Specter said of China when he confronted Obama at a public meeting last month. Specter, who is in a tough primary race in the Rust Belt state of Pennsylvania, said

Chinese subsidies and what he called dumping are "a form of international banditry." China bristles at U.S. complaints. Wang Baodong, spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in Washington, said his country's currency policies "are above blame." He urged Americans to make a "fair and objective assessment on this and not mix things up with domestic politics."

http://news./s/ap/20100315/ap_on_bi_ge/us_us_china

The complaints by the US lawmakers seems to be based on genuine complaints but motivated by a need for "home consumption" to boost their image as movers and shakers in Washington in advance of elections in November 2010. As such, it is likely explained by the now close conjunction of transit Rahu and natal Venus in the SAMVA USA chart as 4th lord of domestic peace at 24° Sagittarius and the 6th house of conflict and lack of communal harmony. In the Chinese chart, the 2nd lord Saturn at 26° Sagittarius and the 12th house of losses and foreign matters is being hit by the same transit Rahu.

Premier Wen Jiabao repeatedly took issue with United States , whose relations with Beijing have soured in recent months. To U.S. criticisms that China keeps its currency undervalued and thus harms U.S. exports, Wen said Beijing opposed "finger-pointing or taking strong measures to force" a readjustment of the yuan. Likewise, he said the recent White House reception to Tibet 's exiled Dalai Lama and U.S. arms sale to Taiwan "caused serious disturbance in relations."

Fri Mar 12, 3:12 am ET

BEIJING (Reuters) – The United States should not make a political issue out of the yuan, a Chinese central banker said on Friday, as the two countries lurched toward a potential bust-up over Beijing's currency regime. The latest rhetorical salvoes underlined how long-running friction caused by the yuan's de facto dollar peg could come to a head next month when President Barack Obama's administration decides whether to brand China as a "currency manipulator." People's Bank of China Vice Governor Su Ning said the United States should look to itself to boost exports and not cast blame on other countries, when asked to comment on remarks on Thursday by Obama, who called on China to move to a "more market-oriented exchange rate.We always refuse to politicize the yuan exchange rate issue, and we never think that one country should ask another country for help in solving its own problems," he said.

Obama's rare comment about the currency comes as his administration mulls whether to use the "currency manipulator" label in a semi-annual Treasury Department report due on April 15, which could set in train punitive actions against China .

China took a similar step in 2008 after the former Bush administration announced a multibillion-dollar arms sale to Taiwan — the most sensitive issue in U.S.-China relations. The latest arms sales could complicate the cooperation the U.S. seeks on issues ranging from Iran's nuclear program to the loosening of Internet controls, including a Google-China standoff over censorship.

By Gideon Rachman

Published: January 18 2010 19:54 | Last updated: January 18 2010 19:54

Cosmologer <cosmologersamva Sent: Sun, January 17, 2010 7:57:38 AM China-USA problems

The proposed late Capricorn rising chart for China may be seen at
