Ties between Israel and US 'worst in 35 years'

Michael Oren made the remark to Israeli diplomats

Israel's ambassador to the US has said that relations between the two countries face their worst crisis for 35 years, the Israeli media reported. Last week Israeli officials announced the building of 1,600 new homes in occupied East Jerusalem while US Vice President Joe Biden was visiting.

Since the announcement, Palestinian leaders have said that indirect talks with Israel are now "doubtful".

Previously the Israeli government has played down the strain in relations.

But Israel's Ambassador to the US, Michael Oren, told a conference call with Israeli consuls general in the US that "the crisis was very serious and we are facing a very difficult period in relations", the Israeli media reported on Monday.

Israel is caught up in a policy crisis with regard to its ambition to effectively annex East Jerusalem by allowing settlers to develop building projects there. It has gotten into a diplomatic scuffle over the issue with its main ally the USA and caused a furor in Washington on the eve of a visit by Vice President Joe Biden, the Israeli government announced the addition of a 1600 unit settlement. Some say this was a calculated move to signal Israels anger and frustration over the slow pace of Washington's handling of the Iran nuclear issue.

In any event, this is clearly seen in the 20° 56' Capricorn rising chart for Israel with transit Rahu at 24° 57' Sagittarius and in the MEP of the 12th house in close mutual affliction to natal Rahu at 20° 53' Aries and the MEP of the 4th house (of real estate and land). Transit 12th lord Jupiter in the 2nd house MEP is also in applying aspect to natal Ketu in the 10th house MEP. The major period of 4th lord Mars is operating, indicating 4th house issues at work, with also Rahu sup-period operative, suggesting manipulation with regardt to the homeland issue. Of course, this derailed Joe Biden's mission and upset his plans. The US government responded signalling its displeasure.

Morevover, as Rahu's efforts at manipulation often have different outcomes than what we think, the Israel action may result in a different approach of the USA to Israel over the Iran crisis, by possibly limiting the ability of Israel to launch a unilater attack on Irans' nucelar facilities.
