Two fold division where the Moon represents Gouri (Jaimini) and the forms fall into the two groups of sukla and krsna paksa of (a) Durga & Kali (Punjab, North india) or (b) Tara & Kali (Bengal), and 2. Three fold division based on the light of the Moon and the definition of beneficence which in turn is based on Parasara's definition of beneficence of the Moon. The 30 tithi's are divided into three groups of 10 tithi's each forming the ten sub-forms of the mother in Her three primary forms of Durga, Lakshmi & Kali. These three forms are based on the Rajas, Satva and Tamas guna and are from (a) sukla pratipada to sukla dasami (Durga) where the big puja is on the tenth day called dasshera; (b) Sukla ekadasi (S11 tithi) to krsna pancami (K5) (Lakshmi or Sri Devi ending on the pancami which is most auspicious for worshipping Her) and © Krsna 6 to Krsna 15 (amavasya) where the ten sub-forms are the dasa-mahavidya of Kali. The real reason for calling these forms as maha VIDYA or knowledge giver forms is that they remove the ignorance of the tamas guna which prevails during this phase of the Moon from K6 to K 15 tithi. Similarly think of Lakshmi as the sustainer and the Satva guna or Shrii Shakti just as you understand Kali as the Niila Shakti and Durga as the Bhu Shakti or the one who fulfills the desires that are caused by the passion of the Rajas Guna. He was saying that the tithi in which one is born has a very specific significance in the the life of the native. Being the child of both the lumineries, it is store house of knowledge. Recently we found out how to find the Jyotirlingam based on the tithi. There is a way we can find the mother form from the tithi too. For the Krsna Paksha, the Dasa Mahavidya form is predominant and for the Sukla Paksha, the Durga form is predominant. Just take the lord of the tithi worship the mother form, based on the paksha. So for Krsna Paksha Birth the form of the mother is 1. Sun- Matangi 2. Moon- Bhubaneswari 3. Mars- Bagalamukhi 4. Merc- Tripurasundari 5. Jup- Tara 6. Ven- Kamalatmika 7. Sat- Kalika 8. Rahu- Chinnamasta 9. Ketu- Dhoomavati For Sukla Paksha, the forms are as you mentioned 1. Sun-Shailyaputri (daughter of the Mountains) 2. Moon- Mahagauri 3. Mars- Skandamata 4. Mercury- Katyayani 5. Jupiter- Brahmacharini 6. Venus- Kushmandi 7. Saturn- Kalaratri 8. Rahu- Chandraganta (bell of the Moon) 9. Ketu- Siddhidatri (giver of siddhis) I am born in Sukla Navami and hence I shall worship Shailyaputri. Look at Sanjay’s foundations of Vedic astrology. All 33 crore devattas can be divided into 33, which can be divided into the 3 functions of Brahma, Shiva, and Visnu. You can research the nav durga on the net but the only place I know of then is from the “Devi Mahatmya”, the text itself and the kavach before it. I have about 6 translations of the text so it is available in the US. There are mantras for all of the Devis in the “Mantra Mahaarnava”, if you get a translated copy of that let me knowJ Kali Mahavidya is the rupa which removes the negativity of Shani. All the Mahavidyas are Kali Shakti Rupas removing the negativity of different planets and houses, Kali Devi is one of the Mahavidyas as well, and there are a multitude of forms for that form of Kali Devi, like Chandi and Chamunda to name the popular ones. Be prepared for different traditions to tell you different views. The Hindu pantheon is a multidimensional matrix, it is not a linear family tree. Can I ask where you learned about them or how I can read more. I also never knew that the das Mahavidya were all kali rupa, did I understand that correctly? I naturally just thought that that just Saturn was Kali. For those interested, I'm listing the forms of Lakshmi as given in Narayan's paper that he presented at the 2003 conference in Edison. Hopefully the paper and recording of the conference wil lbe coming out soon. Maha Lakshmi and her 8 rupa forms Sun: Dhanya Lakshmi Moon: Dhana Lakshmi Mars:Dhaara Lakshmi Mercury:Vidya Lakshmi Venus: Maha Lakshmi Jupiter: Santaana Lakshmi Saturn:Adi Lakshmi Rahu: Vijaya Lakshmi Kutu:Gaja Lakshmi I'd like to also like to post the list of Devi associated wit the Vishnu avatars that Sanjay-ji mentioned in the 2002 conference, but I'll have to review them first. Thanks again Freedom Best Regards, Karen Hare Rama Krsna You also have the Navadurgas: Sun-Shaylaputra (daughter of the Mountains) Moon- Mahagauri Mars- Skandamata Mercury- Katyayani Jupiter- Brahmacharini Venus- Kushmandi Saturn- Kalaratri Rahu- Chandraganta (bell of the Moon) Ketu- Siddhidatri (giver of siddhis) And there is a list of the different Rupas of Laksmi, I know Narayan Iyer talked about them in one of his lectures at the 2003 East Coast conferences. We should get him to upload them. The Mahavidyas (Kali Rupas) should only be used if you know what you are doing with them, otherwise it is better to use a Laxsmi or Durga Rupa. As The Kali rupas can destroy significations, they are generally used to remove negative effects of planets not normally for the supportive Palana devata. The Palana devata is the deity that will provide for your material needs in this life. Like a mother She will see to it that you have food, home, resources etc. [Om Kleem Krishnaaya Jagannathaaya namah] Send a blank mail To : - To : - Groups Links · To visit your group on the web, go to: / ·
