|Hare Rama Krishna|

Dear Nitish and Sarajit, Namaste.

I would like to add my comments to this discussion.

Intellect is the working force, i.e. that which acts.

Intelligence, is the power of the intellect, i.e. that which the intellect acts upon.

Hence Intellect is the Dhi, and Intelligence is the Dhi-Shakti.

As the dhi and its shakti is purely based on awareness, they are at no fault either of them.. its the Mind which the Intellect will follow. Wherever the mind goes, the intellect WILL follow.

The pictural description comes from the Upanishads (katha if i remember correctly):

"The Chariot is the body, the charioteer is the dhi (not dhi-shakti), the reigns is the Mana and the master of the chariot is the Atma!"

Further an elaboration is given; "Just as if the reigns of a chariot are loose, the horses run out of control, the mind is weak leads one astray."

Hence the focus is to make the dhi stronger, and this is done by enhancing the Dhi-Shakti (intelligence). This way one can slowly train the mind through the intellect to become stronger on ones path.

As for who makes the mistake, this depends on the the trinity of the Soul, Mind and Intellect, and can be messured through the dasa. I.e. Ketu being headless in nature tends to enforce mistakes -

The Mahadasa of the Ketu will sure make one prone to mistakes, mainly due to the atma moving on moksha marga. This causes a 'Domino-effect' ensuring that the mind and intellect follow, in their own way. A non-spiritual person will react in more autistic tendencies, not seeking company and practicing seclussion.

The Antar Dasa of Ketu will make the native take spontaneous decissions, be easily agitated and constantly seek mental space for themselves, away from soceity. The Pratyantar Dasa could lead the person towards spiritual retreats and such, as this is happening on a conscious/manifested level.

Hope this helps.

You did a good job with defining the constructsbefore using them to express your ideas. In the game of the Soul and the mind, some gets dominant on ohe other atdifferent times. Both have their own say in the daily affairs of ourlife, our purpose and out final goal. Both understand the reality intheir own sense and one of them is true and one of them is false. I tendto believe that there is a third party, which takes sides either withthe soul or the Mind, which gives us the understanding of the state ofaffairs at that point of time. If it takes the side of the Mind, them weperceive the false reality whereas if takes the side of the soul, the weperceive the true reality. We might say that's our intellect. However, I am more inclined to take intelligence as the agent whichmakes us querry and gives the understanding of the things. It alwaystakes side of the Soul as it is aware of the True reality. However, Isay, if our understanding of True reality is not complete, then I wouldnot say that the intelligence is taking side of the Mind but, I wouldrather say that the intelligence is rather clouded by the Mind and it isunable to express its true nature. This eliminates the possibility ofany third party called the Intellect which would reconcile with Soul andMind and gives us the understanding of the current state of affairs, mayit be based on true reality or false reality.Whatever I said is however, based on my own understanding. :-)Best WishesSarajitNitish Arya [yeeahoo_99] Wednesday, December 31, 2003 5:35 PMvarahamihira Subject: Re:|Sri Varaha| Jeevamuktamsa and lagnamsa -to nitishDear Sarajit, Your understanding doesn't differ from mine but theexplanation does because you take a different meaningof three words: intellect, mind and Dhi. I will givemy definition of these three words: - Intellect is the instrument/faculty of questioningwithout identification and is born out of the puredualistic nature of consciousness at mooladhara chakra(mercury ruler). It is certainly diverted to whoeverit gets associated/identified with because it has noidentification of its own. Mind is the awareness of different sensoryactivities. It has no real identification of its ownand hence no nature whatsoever. Dhi is consciousness of self-sufficiency and isbeyond dualistic explanation. Note that nointellectual/dualisitic escape is intended. Using these definitions together I have followingreasoning: 1. Dhi can never make a mistake, by definition. 2. Mind is without identification, by definition, and its functionality (i.e. moving from one sensoryawareness to another) is often confused for itsexistence followed by its mistake. 3. Intellect can not make a mistake in itsfunctionality of pure questioning, by definition. Sothere is no question of first mistake anywhere in thefunctionality of the three elements. Why I said that intellect makes the first mistakeis because of the opinion that it is the only onewhich comes under complete control of ahamkara, whichis the principle of identification. And ahamkara, isagain a non-existing principle because it has noidentification of its own. Ahamkara, by definition and no-definition, is akinto identification of one object with another objectwhich in turn is identified as a third object and soon. Please note the gradual shift from intellect tointelligence (which I pick as Dhi) in your mail tounderstand the self-approval (a function of Dhi) ofyour line of reasoning. Dear Visti, I thought intelligence is an expression of intellect, not the object..
