Guest guest
Visti, I’d have to dig through too many notes to find the exact calculation, but once Sanjay showed me how all his brothers/family had Moon in the same placement [in a certain varga] which was showing there strong lineage of the Atri Gotra. So there must be a way to calculate Gotra astrologically. Namah Sivaya Visti @ Denmark [visti] Monday, May 31, 2004 9:22 AM varahamihira RE: |Sri Varaha| Dwadasamsa and Gotra |Hare Räma Kåñëa| Dear Frank, Namaskar. Sanjayji only uses the Dwadasamsa to go back 2 generations, i.e. parents and grandparents. He uses the D-40 and D-45 to see what karma is in this lineage, but I have never heard him talk about Gotra from these charts. He once said that the Nadiamsa and the Ardha-Nadiamsa, holds the clue to ones birth in a specific family, specific body, specific name, etc. Hence I believe that’s where one should go for this. Go-tra comes from the word Goshala, which is the place where cows are herded and protected, i.e. Taurus the natural 2nd house. So a way to see which Gotras you get along with is to see the 2nd house in your chart. The planets associating with it, are the gotras you will get along with. If two people have similar Gotras they will be friendly to each other and get along, as they will feel part of the same family. Guest guest
|Hare Räma Kåñëa| Dear Freedom, Namaskar. Unfortunately that is not so. I asked Guruji this at the time he was enquiring this from you, and if you notice – his father does not have Moon in Lagnamsa. Yes he was talking about Lagnämsa. This does not show the Gotra but shows the blessing which they are born with – i.e. What caused their birth? Prior to attempting to have children, Sanjay’s Grandfather – Jagannath Rath – kept a long fast (I remember 21 days) worshipping Atri and Somanath. The result being the siddhi to have children like those born from Atri – Soma, Dattatreya and Durvasa. And so it was that this blessing came in the next generation to his son – UK Rath, who had 3 sons called Sukanth, Sanjay and Sumanth. This blessing is seen from their Lagnamsa having the Moon in it. Guest guest
Dear Ajit, A nice post. Could you tell the source of this information please. I have one doubt. How could Bhrigu be in ancestors of Mars. I am not doubting your source. Only is not Shukra reffered to as son of Bhrigu? Again Manusmriti says Kavi was the son of Angirasa. Kavi is synonym for Shukra , is it not? If Jamadagni's father was bhrigu would he not also belong to Bhargava gotra is my doubt. Again if I remember right the following are the original Gotras: Agastya, Atri,Bharadvaja, Gautama, Jamadagni,Kashyapa, Vashistha, Vishvamitra. Gotras numbering 8 should relate to 7 planets and Rahu. In Pravaras Angirasa finds place whereas Gaurama and Jamadagni are not included making them 7 in numbers. I also find some relation of nakshtras and Gotras in Kalaprakashika as : # NAKSHATRA GOTRA 1. Ashwini Marichi 2. Bharani Marichi 3. Krittika Marichi 4. Rohini Marichi 5. Mrigashira Vashishtha 6. Ardra Vashishtha 7. Punarvasu Vashishtha 8. Pushyami Vashishtha 9. Ashlesha Angiras 10. Guest guest
... hamsasso.aham .. Dear Chandrashekhar, This is taken from the Bodhayana Grihya Sutras. The portions given in brackets is my attempt to trace this back to " original maharishis " . These bracketed portions are based on some research on gotras and their pravaras. It is possible that this information is not accurate. For Mars, what is given in in the sutras is " bhaaradvaaja gotrajaM jaamadagnyaarShaM " . The Bharadvaja gotra traces itself back to Angirasa, and the [sri]vatsa & Jamadagni gotras have pravara rishis from bhArgava to jamadagni. Hence the link from Mars to Angirasa & Brighu. We also have to be careful when we talk about the sapta-rishis. What exactly does this mean? We have a standard list which includes Sage Agastya. We have another standard list of 7 rishis (including Kutsa, Gautama) associated with the vyahritis...and there are some variations of these that I have come across. To be honest, I'm not sure of the difference between the gotra and rishi of a graha, and how this applies to the question at hand. My thought is that the gotra here indicates the lineage of the graha itself, and we want to see the rishi indicated by the graha to determine the gotra of the native. However, this requires a lot of research, and as you have rightly pointed our, a few entries in the list don't quite seem to fit. ajit Chandrashekhar [boxdel] Tuesday, June 01, 2004 2:41 PM varahamihira Re: |Sri Varaha| Dwadasamsa and Gotra Dear Ajit, A nice post.
