Guest guest
Om Subrahmanyaya Namah Dear Frank, Gurus had a few words. Since you are curious, shall I have a few more words on this topic? In the matters you mentioned, apart from marriage all have Jupiter as the karaka, while for marriage Venus is the karaka. And the important connection of Jupiter to marriage is that He rules Progeny, otherwise for every muhurta Jupiter’s strong position is inevitable, as He’s the greatest benefic. Particularly in marriage, as it’s the most important function. So why only these points are refered? As you pointed, Jupiter is a natural freind of Sun, and please check whether the natural enemies like Venus’ and Saturn’s areas, are not to be performed when they transit Leo. Combustion is an important aspect, if this is related to combustion, that’s if Jup’s transit in Leo is to be considered as combustion, then wouldn’t that be applicable for other planets also? Please check this also. And again, atleast Venus’ and Mars’ position are important in marriage muhurta. (You may refer the great Varahamihira’s Brihat Samhita for the results of planetary positions in marriage muhurta). The scholars in almanac casting, whose views have to be given more weightage, differs on this point and they themselves have come up with different logics. Many dont consider this. But, then this has to be seen from the achara prevailing in the respective places. If in a particular place, marriages are not performed in this period, it’s to be avoided. If not, this can be ignored. Atleast in my home state, Kerala, Jupiter’s transit in Leo has no relation with marriage muhurta. In some parts of Maharashtra also as I’ve read. Since you are going through Muhurta, I can share an interesting incident. Once a brahmin approached a few famous jyotishis for a muhurta for upanayanam (thread ceremony)of his son. All jyotishis outrightly told that during that year there was no muhurta for upanayanam of this boy. At last one other jyotishi gave him a muhurta, which this person showed all other jyotishis. Since they were sure that no muhurta is avaliable, they wanted to see how this person could give him a muhurta. It was an ashtama rashi(moon’s transit over 8th rashi from natal moon) which has to be invariably avoided for all muhurtas. Actually these jyotishis were waiting for an occation to degrade the other jyotishi as He was said to be more accurate in his predictions. They all assembled and asked for the other jyotishi to meet them. When questioned, he told them that, if that boy cant do upanayanam in that year, he will be ‘brasht’ later on. The reason was next year his father will expire and for next one year, he’ll have deeksha. Then next year, his mother will expire, that deeksha will continue for a year. After that the age before upanayanam is to be done, will be over. Hence, in order to avoid this, even ashtama rashi was selected for muhurta.
