Dear Sarajit,

Hare Rama Krsna!

>If the exaltation reference is with respect to a nakshatra, then the

>duration of exaltation should be 13d 20m, the duration of a nakshatra...

>Then Maharishi would not have given those specific degrees, but longer

>duration. For that matter, one can argue, that the basis is Rasi only....

I disagree. The star which is the main star of the naksatra will be at a

specific degree of longitude, and not spread over the entire naksatra band

of 13°20'. This is the point of highest exaltation given by the Mararishi,

and of course, in general we accept the whole rasi where this point falls

as the sign of exaltation, though a certain area within the sign can be

the mooltrikona as well.

Yours,

Dhira Krsna dasa,

Jyotishi

Dear Dhira,

I missed the point of the specific star in the nakshatra in the previous

mail. You know what is the exact degree of all the stars the constellations

are made up of? Please share if you have any idea.

Best Wishes

Sarajit
