An amusing incident

Hi folk

Returned from office yesterday to hear my wife relate a fascinating story.

My 1.5-yr old son apparently woke up feeling more than just a bit

unwell. He was so groggy and ill that my wife nearly panicked. Just as

she was about to call me at the office (in case you're wondering, I

leave home typically at about 7.30 in the morning while the others

don't stir under their sheets before 9), my 6.5-yr old son suddenly

put his hand on the younger one's head and recited aloud the

Mrithyunjaya mantra. About 5 or 10 minutes thereon, the younger kiddo

was so up and back to his usual self that my wife thought a little

something had happened, y'know...

No, I'm not reading too much into this little incident which might

just be a playful coincidence, but I sure was intrigued :)

Cheers

Dear Ramapriya

Thanks for this. It proves my point that the chandas and rhythm or correct

recital is not as important as the heart of the one who is chanting. No

doubt that your elder son seems to have endeared himself to Lord shiva. Can

we have their charts for a quick look at the daçäs that can be such an

important message for the parents

Best Wishes

Dear Sanjay,

Just to add another related anecdote, after I started wearing the

topaz you selected for me, I have been experiencing slight swelling

(with mild pain) of the salivary glands just below the

earlobes ...so far I have not gone to the doctor because I have been

chanting the mrityunjaya mantra 21 times whenever I can. On the days

of chanting, the swelling disappears within 2 hours and reappears in

the early morning.

Sarajit and Foo (the latter has some siddhi to gauge the energy of

gemstones) have commented that the topaz is quite powerful.

Hari

Dear Gurudeva,

Can we similarly say that correct knowledge of jyotisha is not as important

as the heart of the one who is predicting?

Dear Ajit,

Please forgive me for intruding here...

Correct knowledge of Jyotisa is necessary if one wants to pass it

down in the tradition (ie from generation to generation).

To predict, one needs intuition as well. Thus, these are two

separate aspects and that is why the istadevata is so important for

a sincere jyotisa.
