Best wishes, Willa AstroDatabank Full Dossier As of: May 18 2005 Filter: (None) Name: REHNQUIST, WILLIAM Name: REHNQUIST, WILLIAM 10/01/1924 Place: Milwaukee, WI Lat: 43 N 02 Gender: M Time: 11:32 CST Lng: 87 W 54 Data Source: Quoted BC/BR Rodden Rating: AA Source Notes: Contemporary American Horoscopes, Gauquelin Book of American Charts Biography: American jurist, an imposing figure as Chief Justice presiding in the impeachment trial of American President William Jefferson Clinton. In his role as defined in the Constitution, his main task was to rule on procedural issues while keeping order in the Senate chamber. He is well qualified for the job, having written a scholarly history a few years prior on the 1868 impeachment trial of President Andrew Johnson. A man of great discretion professionally and personally, he has not discussed his opinion on the impeachment, but many believe that the issue caused him certain conflicts. He has a right-wing conservative background, but also believes that impeachment and removal from office is a grave step. The son of a wholesale paper broker and a college educated mother, Rehnquist was an intellectually precocious boy. " Bill got his smarts from his mom and his sense of humor from his dad, " said a long-term friend. He went to Stanford University and graduated first in his law class. In 1959, Rehnquist started private practice with a partner in Phoenix, Arizona, doing mostly real estate, wills and contracts, joking that " a fair amount of our time was devoted to counting cracks in the office ceiling. " A decade later he took a job as an assistant attorney general in the Justice Department and three years later, at 47, was named to the Supreme Court by Richard Nixon in replacement of Warren Burger in spite of never having served as a judge. For all the gravity that is seen on TV, the jurist is known for his informal manner, with cowboy boots sometimes seen under his robes. Though he stands by a conservative agenda at the court, voting for the death penalty and against abortion, he has shown little trepidation about bending tradition. His legal brilliance is awesome; an intellectual giant, he easily demonstrates a remarkable memory. Married to former CIA employee Nan Cornell, Rehnquist enjoys bridge, oil-painting, choral singing, stamp-collecting, swimming, tennis and theater. He and Nan had three children, James, 43, a lawyer in Boston; Janet, 40, a federal prosecutor in Alexandria, VA; and Nancy, 39, who lives with her family in Weybridge, VT. They were an uncommonly devoted couple and after 38 years of marriage, he was devastated when Nan died of cancer in 1991. On 12/19/1998 at 1:25 PM EST Washington, DC, the motion was passed to adopt impeachment proceedings of the U.S. President, the trial at which Rehnquist presided. The president was acquitted on 2/12/1999 as the Senate did not reach the two-thirds majority vote in spite of ferocious partisan passions. Diagnosed with thyroid cancer, the Supreme Court Chief Justice was admitted to the Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, MD on October 22, 2004. He underwent a tracheotomy the following day. The 80-year-old jurist was released from the hospital on October 29 to recuperate at home and was hoping to resume duties within a week. However, on November 1, 2004, he disclosed that he is beginning radiation and chemotherapy and that Categories: Parenting: Kids 1-3 One son, two daughters Relationship: Marriage >15 Yrs One lengthy marriage, 38 yrs.
