For calculating the Arudha of a House:

1) Examine the lord(s) of the house in question.

2) Count from the said house to where the lord sits and note the

number of houses crossed.

3) Now count from this house, where the lord is, count the same number

of houses ahead as counted in step #2.

4) This should be the Arudha of the house with reference to #1.

5) Note any exceptions (listed below).

Example:

Aries rising

Mars in the 2nd House of Taurus.

Count from Aries to Taurus – you get the number 2.

Now count 2 FROM Taurus and you get to Gemini. This is where the

Arudha of the 1t House is (also known as the AL).

[Remember, in Vedic Astrology counting is always inclusive.]

EXCEPTIONS:

The Arudha cannot be the 1st or the 7th House from the House in question.

Should one find the Arudha falling in either of these 2 houses, then

take the 10th therefrom.

Example:

To find the Arudha of the 12th House (also known as the Upa Pada)

Scorpio Rising; Venus in Capricorn.

Calculations>>

The 12th House is Libra

Libra is ruled by Venus

Counting from Libra to Capricorn, one gets 4.

Now count 4 FROM Capricorn and you get Aries.

This is where the Arudha of the 12th would normally fall, but take

note of the exception.

Hence count 10 FROM Aries, to reach Capricorn, which holds the A12 /

Upa Pada.

There are more examples in the archives.
