Guest guest
Shri Brahmadaru Smarami Dear Srivastavji, Brahmadaru is Jagannath. Daru is wood. It refers to that Brahma or Brahman, the Supreme Omnipresent Lord, who is wooden in form. It refers to Lord Jagannath who is made of the wood from the Neem Tree. Alternatively the word Darubrahma is also sometimes used. You will find a cross reference of the word Brahmadaru in the Purushottama Mahatmya of the Skanda Puran. This particular signature is from the Jagannath Dhyana which I posted and translated in the List. I will try to dig it out and post it to you. Jagannath is said to represent the Brahman or the Nirakar Narayana. It is said that Lord Jagannath Himself disguised as a carpenter, sculpted the idols of Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra and Sudarshana behind a locked door, but as Indradyumna opened the door before the scheduled time, the idols remained unfinished. Jagannath, however told Indradyumna, that these unfinished idols would express a very special leela of his Supreme Self. “In my natural state, I am without arms and legs; but in my unnatural state, I assume arms and legs and accept the offerings of my devotees and roam the universe. Let these unfinished idols be representative of this profound philosophy of my being.” This lord Jagannath is Brahmadaru.
