Dear Kamal, The concept as I understand is: There are 24 horas (hrs) in a day. The horas start from sunrise and till next days sunrise there are 24 horas. The starting hora will be of the planet of the day i.e., to say, on Sunday, the first hora will be of Sun and the next hora will be of the next 6th planet i.e., Venus and subsequently of every sixth planet thereafter. Through this cycle the last hora before sunrise of the next day will be of Mercury and the next hora will be of Moon as from Mercury the next 6th planet will be Moon, so the starting hora of next day will be of Moon, so it is Monday. On Monday the last hora will be of Jupiter and at sunrise next day the next hora will be of its 6th planet i.e., from Jupiter in weeky order it is Mars, so the next day is Tuesday, and this cycle goes on. Hope this helps. Regards Ravi Nair Fellow student .KAMAL <sightsolutions wrote: Dear Guru Jans, we call different days of the week by different names from Sunday to saturday with relation to a Graha. Like Surya's day is Sunday and Guru's day is thursday. My question is like today 17th June 2007 is Sunday. This day being Sunday not Monday has any

astrological or astrnomical basis or some time in the past it was fixed arbitarily or told by some Rishi and we have been counting there after. Pleass shed some light. thanks kamal
