Guest guest Posted April 15, 2008 Report Share Posted April 15, 2008 WHEREAS, continuing into the new millennium, 20 percent of the United States' consumed electricity and 14 percent of Canada's consumed electricity is generated by nuclear power; and WHEREAS, 103 operating United States' nuclear power plants provided 782 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to consumers in 2005 while comprising 10 percent of the nations energy capacity as nuclear energy production costs continue to decline; and WHEREAS, 443 nuclear power plants supply 16 percent of the world's electricity needs while avoiding 500 million tons of carbon annually; and WHEREAS, about 15,000 IBEW members are directly employed to operate, maintain, and provide support at 69 operating nuclear power reactors; and WHEREAS, about 70,000 IBEW members and other building trade workers are temporarily used as contractors or vendor specialty crews to provide service and maintenance; and WHEREAS, IBEW members have the required skills to construct, operate and maintain nuclear power plants within the stringent regulatory requirements employed as federally mandated trustworthy and reliable workers while achieving record levels of nuclear plant capacity factors and safe performance records at these facilities; http://www.helpmefree.com/support-of-nuclear-energy/ Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
