AATHREYA IN USA - SAPTHA RISHIS

I am interrupting my series on Loka Paalakas to answer a query

about Saptha Rishis in each Manvantharam.

I set about the task by gathering information from public domain,

from what I heard , from what I read and from internet.

It is a fascinating Vedic history . Here it goes as follows .

OM GANESHAAYA NAMAHA OM

During the present Swetha Varaaha Kalpam there are eras of 14

Manus . We are now within the domain of 7 th Manu , Vaivaswatha

Manu (Vaivaswatha Manvantharam). Each Manu's era lasts over a

period of 71 Maha Yugas.

Each Maha Yuga comprises of a repeating cycle of 4 Yugas -

Sathya ( Krutha ) , Thretha , Dwaapara , and Kali Yugas.

Our present Vaivaswatha Manu has completed 27 Maha Yugas and

He is now in 28 th Maha Yuga of which Sathya , Thretha and Dwaapara

Yugas are completed and we are now in Swetha Varaaha Kalpam ,

Vaivaswatha Manvanthram , 28 th Mahaa Yugam , 51009 year of

Kaliyugam .

At the beginning of creation there were no Saptha Rishis.

First Brahma created 4 Primordial Rishis - Sanaka , Sanandana ,

Sanath Kumaara and Sanaadhana(Sanath Sujaatha). These 4 Rishis

were the first born Sons of Brahma and They were philosophers,

bachelors and ardent devotees of Bhagawaan NaaraayaN.

Later Brahma created - Naarada , Rucheeka , Daksha , Kardama ,

Mareechi , Athri , Vasishtta , Bhrigu , Angiras , Krathu , Attharva ,

Pulaha , Pulasthya , Gowthama , Viswakarma , Dharma , Swayambhoo Manu.

Of these except Naarada , all the rest got married and settled down.

Later on Bhagawaan NaaraayaN Blessed HIS devotee Dhruva whom HE

made a Dhruva Nakshathra - North Polar Star. Now the aforementioned

4 Primordial Rishis requested Bhagawaan Naarayan to designate 7 of the

married

(refer above para) sons of Brahma as Saptha Rishis to circumambulate Dhruva

Star

and thus it came to pass the nomination of First Saptha Rishis -

and the winners are : - 1. Mareechi , 2. Athri , 3. Angiras , 4. Krathu ,

5. Vasishtta , 6 . Pulaha , and 7. Pulasthya. these were the

first Batch of Saptha Rishis during the regime of 1st Manu , Swayambhoo

Manu.

The designated Saptha Rishsi change every time Manu changes and so far 6

batches

of Saptha Rishis held sway during the past era of 6 Manus.

Now within our present 7th Manu , Vaivaswatha Manvantharam , the Present

named

Saptha Rishis are : - 1.Viswaamithra , 2.Jamadagni, 3.Bharadwaaja ,

4.Gowthama,

5.Athri , 6.Vasishtta, and 7. Kashyapa.

Please note during all these Manvantharams only Athri and Vasishtta

constantly

retained their position as two of the Saptha Rishis. The others who at

various times

occupied the position of Saptha Rishis are - Agasthya , Daksha , Attharva ,

Doorvaasa etc.

Which batch of Saptha Rishis within each Manvantharam is beyond me .

Very intersting fact is the following Great Rishis never made it into Saptha

Rishis Position:

The losers are :- Sanaka Brothers , Naarada , Paraashara , Veda Vyaasa ,

Rucheeka ,

Kardama , Kapila and many more.

ALL THE ABOVE FACTUAL VEDIC INFORMATION IS IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN .

Any Errors are entirely mine and mine only. OmShaanthihi . Sahanaavavathu.

Loka Paalakas To Be Continued.
