As we are from The Great Hindu Culture

and Tradition. I feel its our primary responsibility or duty to know

about our Great Sage's and people who built the strong foundations for

Hinduism and Vedic Sciences. In this Ever Learning Process, I would

like to plead my humble request to all the Great Guruji's here in this

group to Spread some Knowledge on Brahma Rishi VASISTA. His

Contributions, Importance and Cadid works towards Hinduism and Vedic

Sciences.

dear friend

 

your query warrants good answer since all the knowledge that is known

to us through various ancient classics is written by these great

sages, nay, all of us are descendents of these great sages and the

lineage of gothra is there for all castes of people as we all have

the great sages as our great great grand fathers.

 

sage vasishta is the son of brahma and vasishta is reverred as one of

the nine brahmas who are all manasaputras of brahma.

 

vasishta smriti, vasishta sutra, vasishta samhita and various other

works like yoga vasishta, jnana vasishta, vriddha vasishta, jyoti

vasishta etc. are all the works by this great sage.

 

vasishta is the guru of the entire surya dynasty. the ikshvaku

lineage to which lord rama belongs to rever vasishta not only as

their guru but as their purohit for all functions.

 

to test his wife arundhati, vasishta gave his kamandal to her and

tells her not to keep it down till he comes back and he never comes

back. after long time, lord brahma requests vasishta to come back

and blesses that arudhati is the best pativratra ever seen in this

universe.

 

vasishta and arundhati were having a sacrd cow called kamadhenu.

once king viswamitra try to take this kamadhenu by force to which

vasishta asks the kamadhenu to protect itself whereafter thousands of

armies come out of it and killed the entire army of viswamitra. then

viswamitra unable to do any harm to vasishta, kills the hundred sons

of vasishta.

 

raja harischandra of varanasi was subjected to lot of human hardships

to prove his satyavrata when sages vasishta and viswamitra try to

prove the king right or wrong in his satyavrata.

 

vasishta also teaches how to achieve moksham within the grihastha

ashram itself to king janaka and dileep.

 

there are hundreds of stories of sage vasishta in various epics,

puranas, smritis and vedas and it is difficult for me to even outline

all these stories as they are voluminous, illustrious and full of

knowledge. time permitting, will surely share more on these great

sages again.
