Guest guest Posted March 16, 2007 Report Share Posted March 16, 2007 Jaya Jagannatha Dear Members, Namaste Whilst browsing through Padma Purana Sristhikhanda, so for now: Ch.79 Sun Vyasa’s narration of a dialogue between King Badreshvara (afflicted with leprosy and cured) and the Brahmanas: Worship of the Sun with (sacred) hymns, offerings, annoitments, various kinds of fruits, sacred (sali) rice, japaa, karaveera and kara~njaka flowers, arka leaves, red saffron, red lead (red oxide??), Flowers in bloom during vasant ritu, the fruits and leaves of plantains. Ch 80 Moon Offer curds in bell metal for worship. Gift of the complete array of food, taabuula, lei, and according to the person’s wealth, a golden or silver vessel is to be offered to a brahmana who has many sons. Ch 81 Mars (Bhauma being a portion of Lord Shiva) - when Mars’s position at birth is unfavourable or during its traversal into an unfriendly Sign etc., or during its traversal from one sign into another: Worship: Red flowers, unguents, red sandalpaste/kumkum Ch 81 Budha Worship with sandalwood paste, etc flowers and incense. Gifts: camphor, kidney beans, green piece of cloth, gems (emeralds and related?) and gold according to one’s capacity. Sloka 8 Guru – when Guru is unfavourable (debility or in enemy’s sign) or if it is badly placed or during its traversal into another zodiacal sign. Worship with fragrant yellow flowers, piece of yellow cloth and gold. For the removal of evils, two-portioned pulse (tooowar dhal), yellow garment, gold and yellow sapphire. Sloka 15 Shukra - Worship with white sandalwood, white flowers and pieces of white cloth. Gift of silver If Shukra is unfavourable in one’s chart, or when it is passing from one zodiacal sign into an unfavourable sign, present a white horse to a brahmana, rice, white garment, silver, sandalwood and camphor. Sloka 20 etc Sani - Worship with black sandal (is this ground burnt rice mixed with sandalwood powder?), (black) flowers, pieces of black cloth. Gift: According to one’s capacity, a blue sapphire and gold. Sloka 25 – Raahu - Worship is identical with Sani Gifts: Gomedha*, mustard, sesame seeds, black beans, buffalo and a goat. Sloka 28 – Ketu Procedure of worship is identical with that of Sani. Gifts are of 7 kinds of grains and gold The mantras recommended are vedic. Any idea, anyone?
