It can be said to be a sandhi of Varna + da. Knowing this one can ponder on the many meanings of Varnada. Varna means community and da means to give. Lagna denotes self. So putting all these together we can know that, Varnada lagna indicates the community one is born in and the work we have to do for the community. " Varna " is of four types. It indicates the quadrants and people we support by paaraspara kaaraka (mutual workers). Brahmana, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Kshudra. Indicating support or work by providing knowledge, control/administration, finances/resources and the actual labour. " da " is of three types. It indicates the trines and hence the self and it's character. The " da/daa " reminds us of the story where Brahma gives a lesson of what to do for three kinds of beings Devas(Satvic), Manushya(Rajasic) and Asura (Tamasic). The " daa " teaches us " Dama " -Self control, " daana " -donation and " daya " -Sympathy and empathy. Without theses characters in self we cannot do any good task (karma) in the society.Parashara muni in special lagna chapter gives the computation for varnada lagna, visheshhalagnAdhyAyaH || 5||ojalagnaprasUtAnAM meshhAdergaNayet.h kramAt.h |samalagnaprasUtAnAm mInAderapasavyataH || 11||meshhamInAdito janmalagnAntaM gaNayet.h sudhIH |tathaiva horAlagnAntaM gaNayitvA tataH param.h || 12||ojatvena samatvena sayAtIye ubhe yadi |tarhi saMkhye yojayIta vaijAtye tu viyojayet.h || 13||meshhamInAditaH pashchAdyo rAshiH sa tu varNadaH |Let me put the computation stepwise, Step 1: Compute Lagna(LG) and Hora Lagna(HL) Step 2: If Lagna is Even or Hora Lagna is Even Sign then calculate degress in reverse " i.e from pisces " Step 3: If LG and HL are same oddity then find sum else get the difference. Step 4: If Lagna is Odd Sign the count in foreward or get reverseThe table below shows the computations for various values.Varanada Lagna: Changes approximately 3 times faster than Lagna.Varanada lagna goes in reverse direction for some values, but the speed in reverse (from pisces) is also approximately three times faster than lagna.Thus Varnada lagna, indicates third house factors. Just as Hora Lagna indicates 2nd house factors.
