Om Gurave Namah

Dear Swee,

I had in mind the episode of the Churning of the ocean ofcourse.

I thought that the Rahu`s role in it is well known. Though, you are

right on insisting on precision when it comes to scriptures. I could

give Srimad Bhagavatam as the source as it leaves no space for the

doubt.

Canto 8, chapter 9:

24. Rahu, the demon who causes eclipses of the sun and moon, covered

himself with the dress of a demigod and thus entered the assembly of

the demigods and drank nectar without being detected by anyone, even

by the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The moon and the sun, however,

because of permanent animosity toward Rahu, understood the situation.

Thus Rahu was detected.

25. The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Hari, using His disc, which

was sharp like a razor, at once cut off Rahu's head. When Rahu's head

was severed from his body, the body, being untouched by the nectar,

could not survive.

26. Rahu's head, however, having been touched by the nectar, became

immortal...

Warm regards,

Tijana

Dear Tijana,

Namaste

I am aware of the ref. from Srimad Bhagavatam and the Bhagavata, Padma etc Puranani, but thought I have missed the one from the Vishnu P.

There has been instances of churning the different Oceans that manifest different situations. In the example you’ve given, it is the milk Ocean which points to Rahu.

Love,

Swee
