Guest guest
Dear sirs, I request our learned pundits to advise me as to whether it is possibleto find out one's family deity(kula devatha) from the horoscope. I am being asked to pray to my family deity, but neither me nor the elderly persons in the family knowwhich is our family god and where His temple is situated. My ancestors have not left any note or information on this point and they have not also communicated this to anyone inthe present generation. When I contacted some friends, they also said that they also face a similar problem. Please come forward to help us. G.Subramanian
Guest guest
Dear Shri. Subramanian, From the chart it is possible to find your upasana murthy, or the deity you should do upasana to in order to get auspicious benefits. But the issue you have raised is of kula devatha. This is the deity of your family, which is difficult to find from the chart. I use the word difficult because, there may be some very enlightened astrologers or seers who may be able to say this. But remember, there is no way of confirmation. You should also be aware that apart from the above two, many even have a grama devatha. This is the presiding deity of all the people in that village or town. When a prashnam is conducted in a traditional way, generally, the astrologer will say of any offering to your kula devatha is pending, which may the reason for any misfortune you may be going through. If this is pointed out, the prashan astrologer will also indicate where the temple is situated. Guest guest
Dear Mr.Subramaniam, In the absence of the knowledge of your Kuldevata... I suggest In the excellent book "ASTRO IQ", by Mr.K.Subramaniam,in the Chapter, " Whom to Pray - GOD and GODDESS", by Mr.K.Subramaniam, Pp32-33, one is to pray to HIM/HER who is indicated by the most powerful planet in your Birth Chart... Another chapter gives a list of favourable/unfavourable planets Pp44-48 where the Lagna-wise list is given... I suggest you get hold of this book, and then select the deity most favourable/suitable to you...as per K.P. This,to my mind, will be the best option for you...instead of getting confused with conflicting/confusing opinions... With the very best wishes, Yogesh Lajmi. GOOD LUCK ! Guest guest
Dear Mr.Subramaniam, Allow me to add, that each Gothram, has(or a group of them have) a Kuladevata assigned it it...possibly your Family Purohit could advise you better on this... If you live in or close to Chennai or Madurai or Rameshwaram or Tirupathi or have contacts there,I understand that you could be able to find out from a senior Purohit...just like in Varanasi or Nashik for example, if you know your Gothram and some other details they will find out your Kuladevata for you...( the Clan system of yore). With kind regards, Yogesh Lajmi GOOD LUCK ! Guest guest
Dear Sri Subramanian, My experience is also same as with you. In my case there was long gap of begetting child after marriage. Many advised to pray our family deity, I was also not knowing who was our deity. One elderly man who possessed Vaksiddhi told me that you get your Gothram through your father (what Shri Lajmiji has told is correct). So you find your ancestor who lived for a long time at one place, and who worshipped a deity, that will be your deity. Then I came to know from one of my relatives that my grand father was a very pius man lived in a village near Sirkazhi and he was strong devotee of Lord Ayyanar (Lord Iyappan). After knowing this I went to that place and worshipped HIM sincerely. To our utter surprise we got blessed with a child that year. So you may know from your parental side who lived long at one place and find out the deity (God or Goddes) and worship. You will succeed in all your endeavour.
