|| Om Gurave Namah ||Dear Lakshmiji, I have also heard during the puja some people say either a Vishnu or Shiva gotra. I think this would indicate the preference of Ishta devata, when person doesnt know about his/her gotra. Maybe others can add further inputs here.

Warm RegardsSanjay P 2008/11/27 Lakshmi Kary <lakshmikary

Hare Rama Krishna

Dear Sarbani,

Thanks for your note.

When I have a puja done and I am asked, do I say I

dont have one or something related to my spiritual

lineage or astrological lineage, or both ?

Or is it only a physical lineage..? Do you need to be

physically related to the Gotra through familial

lines?

Hope Im expressing myself properly.

Thank-you,

Lakshmi

Dear Lakshmi,if i am permitted to mention!

1. In Gyatri initiation some time before i noticed , priest told me gotra of guru on behalf of whom the deeksha was given.Later ,on enqiry he told me now onward, those who do not know gotra will use this gotra for purpose of Worship.

The party who conducted ritual knew well that many elite astrologers from outside India are being initiated by their team.this is just for information,

2. In kerala tradition Gotra matching is considered for marriage.prasna marg describes gotra matching. One software Astroloka gives matching of all kuta based on prasna Marg including gotra matching.

3. Gotra determination is part of Jaimini scholar course and topic was touched in jaimani teachings. This may be taught in detail when guru ji , feels right to students who qualifies to receive his teachings.

with best wishes.
