Guest guest Posted January 26, 2009 Report Share Posted January 26, 2009 Dear Prasant, If we take geocentric sidereal /tropical longitudes ,no doubt , ending moment of Lunar Tithis will occur at the same moment throughout the glove.    The topocentric positions slightly differ from place to place depending on the longitude and altitude of the place of observation ,maximum being 9 arc sec for Sun, 62 arc min. for Moon and 1 arc min. for planets.This is the reason , that if tithi is calculated on the basis of Topocentric positions , it will vary from place to place.Visivility of Moon and eclipses are computed with the help of topocentric Moon and Sun  positions for a place. The timing of Ingress of Moon or any planet in any Nakshatra or sidereal sign will depend on following factors: 1. Method of computation-geocentric or topocentric 2. First point of sidereal Aries - ie Ayanamsa value. The name of Lunar months are assigned after the names of prominent stars on the path of Sun i.e ecliptic.
