Dear Hariharan ji,

Uptill now four important chapters of BPHS have been

covered. As a matter of fact , these are not the yogas

but provide basic foundation for assessment.

You may have noticed ,that Moon's Nodes : Rahu indicating power  behind every

individual

which keeps him totally involved in the affairs of the world -'Privarti Marg'

and Ketu indicate 'Nirvirity Marg' ,thus native acts like Karma Yogi. Sage

Vayasa says in his Navgraha Strotra that - Rahu represent Bahurbalam

and Ketu 'Kulsya Unatti'.Thus these nodes are not includes or considered in

these chapters. As a matter of fact , various yogas of these four chapters

indicate basic

SIGNIFICATION-Karktwa of nativity as a whole.  MEAN   Rahu and Ketu are

called Karmic

planets , through which the native fulfils debts and undergoes suffering for his

Karma in past lives.

(True Rahu and Ketu should not be considered as karmic planets , but controls

the Karma

in present incarnation of life and provide the freedom of action. Mean and

True nodes act

on different planes. Mean nodes are karmic in nature thus indicate about

suffering which

native faces as FATE in the present incarnation and True nodes help to transform

the

destiny which unfolds before the native on account of Karma in this life.)

Chapter-36 - Nabhas yoga

I have presented a separate paper on these yogas , and hope our group have it.

Chapter-37 Vividhyogas- This chapter should be studied along with following

references:

a, Chapter 6 of Phal Deepika

b, First  fifteen slokas of Chapter 11 of Jatak Parijat

c, Chapter 8 of Jatak Desh Marga

Chamar yoga -Sloka 44 ,Kaahal and Parvat yogas -Sloka 35 and 36 of Phaldeepika

( these two yogas of BPHS are different), and Kalpadrum yoga = sloka 33and 34 of

BPHS chapter 37 are to studied in this order, These yogas indicate various

methods

to visualise the strength of Lagna.

I will give some observations on Yogas of Ch 38 and 39 in my next mail.

Regards,

Understanding BPHS- chapter 38

Atha raviyoga adhyayah (yogas of the Sun)

1 suryat swa antya ubhayasthaihi cha vina chandram kuja adibhihi

Veshi voshi samakhyau cha tatha ubhayacharah kramat

Excepting the moon, if mars and other planets be in the 2nd from the sun veshi

yoga is formed, if similar planets be in the 12th to the sun, voshi yoga is

formed, if the planets be in both the 2nd and the 12th houses to sun,

ubhayachari yoga is formed

2 samadrik satyavang martyah deergha kayah alasah tatha

Sukhabhaga alpa vitta api veshi yoga samudbhavah

One born in veshi yoga will be even sighted, truthful, long-bodied, lazy, happy

and endowed with little wealth

3 voshau cha nipunah daata yashah vidhya balavantihi

Tatha ubhayachare jatah bhupah va tat samah sukhi

One born in voshi yoga will be skilful, charitable, famous, endowed with

learning and strength. The ubhayachari yoga makes the native a king or gives him

happiness equal to a king

4 shubhagrahabhave yoge phalam evam vichintyet

Papagrahasamutpanne yoge tu phalam anyatha

Benefics causing these yogas will give the above-mentioned yogas, malefics

causing these effects will give reverse effects.

Note: The verse1 says, " vina chandram kuja adibhihi " – so moon is not involved

in the yogas, while Mars seem to be required to cause yogas, besides other

planets. Verse 4 says, malefics causing the yogas give contrary effects. Mars is

a malefic. Hence these yogas require careful interpretation

This concludes chapter 38 of BPHS, next….
