Guest guest
Namaste, I had occasion to read that this tantra was a creation of Raja Rammohan Roy and the colonial Brits in the 19th century. Frankly, to me it does not matter if one tantra is proved fraudulent as there are plenty more- and it no more causes a blemish to shastra than an ant on an elephants back. Does any one here have any idea about this based on their reading ? Regards, Shyam
Guest guest
Hare Rama Krishna Dear Shyam, Certain tantra sects hold the Mahanirvan Tantra not only to be the most superior of all tantras, but they also hold it above the Vedas. Only parts of the Mahanirvan have been recovered. I dont beleive anyone has the entire text. There is a school who propounded that it was written/commissioned by Raja Rammohun Roy or his guru. This theory has been debunked long time ago. Read the article by Ashoke Kumar Bandyopadhyay and others on this matter. Raja Rammohun was the founder of the Brahmo Samaj. The tantras are everything that he has stood against all his life. So its a bit contradictory even at face value that he would write it or commission it. The Mahanirvan has a large section on Brahma upasana before delving into Adya Kali and Ananda Bhairavi worship. Perhaps that is why this rumour had spread. But Brahma upasana is intrinsic to tantra sadhana! It just may not be so obviously stated in the other tantras. Many people refer to the tantras as applied Vedanta. Guest guest
Dear Sarbani, Namaste! Thank you for your response. It explains a lot.. I think I will now read this text and its translation. Would you know if there is a copy of the Gauri Tantra- which forms part of the Rudra Yamala available anywhere ? I am able to find only the Uttara Khand of the Rudra Yamala which is the last part available.
