|| Om Gurave Namah ||

Dear Jyotishas,

Some have said that Maharishi Parashara has never mentioned the Dasa Mahavidya

names. For them, Please refer D20 (Vimsamsa) Deity Names by Parashara. All the

10 names of Mahavidya is given and more!. In fact he has give 40 names of all

Feminine dieties (4x10 = 20, Can we say 4 stands for gati and 10 for

mahavidya?).

So I think from this it's obvious that at Parashara's time All the mahavidya's

existed and more. And in fact he considers that for Spiritual progress only

Feminine dieties are important.

Warm Regards

Sanjay P

17-21. Vimshans. From Mesh for a Movable Rasi, from Dhanu for a Fixed Rasi and

from Simh for a Common Rasi: this is how the calculations of Vimshansas (.

1/20th of a Rasi, or 1°30' each) are to commence. The presiding deities of the

20 Vimshansas in an odd Rasi are, respectively: Kali, Gauri, Jaya, Lakshmi,

Vijaya, Vimal, Sati, Tara, Jvalamukhi, Sveta, Lalita, Bagalamukhi, Pratyangir,

Shachi, Raudri, Bhavani, Varad, Jaya, Tripura and Sumukhi. In an even Rasi these

20 deities, respectively, are Daya, Megha, Chinnasi, Pisachini, Dhumavathi,

Matangi, Bal, Bhadr, Arun, Anal, Pingal, Chuchchuk, Ghora, Vaarahi, Vaishnavi,

Sita, Bhuvanesvari, Bhairavi, Mangal and Aparajit.

I think if Parashara mentions the names of the Mahavidyas among a set of 40 female deities for Vimsamsa, then it could simple mean he never wanted a direct planetary correlation between Mahavidyas and planets. Maybe, each Mahavidya is much more than one planet at a time.

Or, the worshipping of these ten specifically may not have been that prevelant.

Or, some of Parashara's writings are lost.
