Guest guest
Hello Tijana, Thanks for the reference - i will go through it and see what i find. Wrt astrology, Bhairavas protect the lagna (and cause destruction of ignorance)...of course you would know better. I read about these descriptions (of Bhairavas as you have given below) earlier too, but am not able to derive a correspondence just based on these characteristics, except that 1st three correspond to Sun, Moon and Mars (based on the weapon they carry). Besides, at some places, Kalabhairava is said to be presiding at the center (not one of the 8 bhairavas). Since Bhairavas are also related to (said to guard) directions (of city of Kasi), i also thought that may be there is some relation to digbala of the planets (as per digchakra) so Asitanga Bhairava may correspond to Sun (East) and so on (see VRA by Pt. Sanjay Rath for Bhairavas wrt directions)...but i'm not sure if this is the correspondence that for Bhairavas vs. planets has to be applied. e.g. the direction correspondence wrt digbala for Ashtamurti Shiva (Sharva etc.) is not the same as planetary correspondence for the same - e.g. Sharva ~ East, but East gives digbala to Su and Sharva actually corresponds to Prithvi tattva (mercury). So what i mean is that the basis of correspondence for Ashtamutrti Shiva is the tattvas as given in Shiva Purana (and it can be applied to Mahapursha Yogas). So I am yet trying to find what kind of correspondence is applied to the AshtaBhairavas. Bhairava is also linke dto destruction of time - so may be the correspondence has to do with Kalachakra - rather than digchakra...or may be there are 2 correspondences - meant for 2 different purposes? Guest guest
om gurave namah Dear SS, Namstestu Mahamaye! We are stumbling upon names and forms again. Kalabhairava must be the center and even if a different name is assigned to it (Kapala) the very form must imply meanings which Kalabhairava possesses, as Kaala is the center. I would go for Sun for Kalabhairava definitely because of the color I`ve mentioned and because it is karaka for lagna itself. Also, it is the observed movement of the Sun which creates directions. I`ll wait patiently with you to hear about Batuka Bhairava. Guest guest
Dear Tijana, Checked the Agni Purana. It's not chapter 54; rather chapter 312/313 (Naanamantras) that just " lists " the 8 Bhairavas (sloka 7 and 8) (and also 4 Vatukas and 8 Kshetrapalas in the following slokas). It doesnt mention the terms " Kaalabhairava " and " Vatuka-Bhairava " , which may perhaps be found in some other text. Guest guest
Jaya Jagannatha! Dear SS, I`m sorry for the wrong reference, I must have confused it with some other scripture as I was going through many searching for some information. I found so little and this really puzzles me now. There seems to be some problem with posting mails, as my mails don`t reach the list. I answered to you and gave my opinion on Kalabhairava which I see strongly related to Sun (worshiped to remove Sani`s influence as mentioned by Visti, yellow in colour implies Sun, Sun as the progenitor whose observed motion created directions in the first place...). The most logic relation I still see in colors in their relation to tatvas. I don`t know anything about Batuka Bhairava as I can`t find it listed among the eight commonly known Bhairavas. Warm regards, Tijana sohamsa , " Soul Sadhak " <soulsadhak wrote: > > > Dear Tijana, > > Checked the Agni Purana. > > It's not chapter 54; rather chapter 312/313 (Naanamantras) that just > " lists " the 8 Bhairavas (sloka 7 and 8) > > (and also 4 Vatukas and 8 Kshetrapalas in the following slokas). > > It doesnt mention the terms " Kaalabhairava " and " Vatuka-Bhairava " , which > may perhaps be found in some other text. > > Best Regards, > > SS > > > > > sohamsa , " Soul Sadhak " <soulsadhak@> wrote: > > > > > > Dear Visti and Tijana, > > > > Does Batuka Bhairava figure in the Ashta-Bhairavas? > > > > Is it Kalabhairava or Kapalabhairava wrt the Ashta-Bhairavas? > > > > If former, then which Bhairava/form sits in the center? > > > > Best Regards, > > > > SS > > > > > > > > > > sohamsa , " Tijana Damjanovic " > > tijanadamjanovic@ wrote: > > > > > > om gurave namah > > > Dear Visti, SS > > > This could mean that tatvas are the key.
