OM Namo Bhagvate Venkateshaya

Dear Gurujan, Namaskar,

First of all would like to wish everyone in the forum a very Happy Ganesh

Chaturthi.

Am writing in as am in need of advice regarding a Shri Ganesha statue which we

found during puja in our house today. This statue has its trunk to the right

side and has been there in our house since the last 56 years. I recently came to

know that when an idol of Shri Ganesha with its trunk to the right is kept at

home one needs to worship it daily in a dedicated way and we have honestly not

being doing this all these years. It was infact purchased by my grandmother 56

years ago as per my father who has been seeing it since then.

I feel that it is better to donate it to a temple which would worship it daily.

As it has been there for so long in the house we are feeling hesitant about

doing this. Would be extremely grateful if I could have advice as to what would

be the correct thing to do and how to go about doing the same.

Thanks,

Ramesh M

... this is good oman (around Ganesh chruthi)  that you have found it or it come its own in front of you and saying you were ignoring  me son.... please correct your mistake... otherwise nature have its own way to teach lesson ............this is symbol of your pitris as well as the protection (right trunk) for your home .. first of all i think  should keep this at home for ever...  or  you should  worship it home till next chatruthi and then you can donate him in mandir with good farewell party.. aleast in respectable manner.., else is your wish..

Regard

Namaskaram-I think it would be quite simple for you to do a pancha puja

after lighting the lamp every day. This is:

1. Gandha ( sandalwood paste or similar scent)

2. Pushpa

3. Dhoopa

4. Deepa

5. Naivedya ( can be fruits or even the food you eat every day).

It could be completed in 15 minutes or less. If you have a Guru, you

could learn antar-puja.

This will give you good benefits- having a nitya karma is a first step

to more complex practices. If you travel- someone else in your house can

do the same.

There are very few temples which really take care of an idol which has

had prana pratishta done to it before. If prana pratishta has never been

done in this idol, then there is no harm in just keeping it at home.

Regards,

Shyam
