Dear Gurujan - Namaste!

I am a Jyotish student and request you all to kindly clarify the following:

In Sarvartha Chintamani (Chapter 1 - Stanza 30), mention of Traiyodasa (13)

Vargas is made. The required stanza is reproduced below:

Saptavargodbhavaam Saascha Sa-adhimitra-amsakaa amee |

Sa-uttamaamsaka Shashtyaamsaa Vargaah Prooktaat Traiyoodasi ||

I request you all to kindly mention which vargas constitute the Traiyodasa

vargas. Also, please clarify the link between Saptavargas & Adhimitra and

Uttamamsa & Shashtyaamsa in the above stanza.

Thanking Gurujan in advance.

Dear SNS DaÅ›Ä

One interpretation of this made by ÅšrÄ« JagannÄth Bhasin

is that uttamamsa is 13 out of 16 divisions ...

Best Wishes

Dear Guru Sanjay Rathji - Namaskar!

I am excited and feel honoured to have received response directly from yourself.

Thank you.

Regarding my query, Guruji, I request you to kindly clarify the following:

1. I am following Telugu translation of Sarvartha Chintamani. Translator is

Pandit. Sri. Mantri Lakshmi Narayana Sastry.

2. According to his translation (and my limited understanding),

i) The Sapta Vargas (along with Grahas in their Adhi-Mitra Amsas in each of the

Sapta Vargas) and,

ii) The Shashtyamsas (along with the Grahas being Uttamas)

consitute the Traiyodasa Vargas.

[Graha Uttama in Sarvartha Chintamani(Chap 1:Stanza 29) is defined as Graha

posited in either a)Moolatrikona or b)Swooccha or c)Swa-kshetra or d)Kendra in a

Varga]

I am unable to understand how the above parts (2.i and 2.ii) add upto thirteen

(Traiyodasa).

3. Further to the above, in Sarvartha Chintamani (Chap 1: Stanzas 31 through 34)

Visesha-amsas of Grahas are given as follows (which also suggest that Thirteen

Vargas may have to be considered as against Shodasha Vargas):

Graha Shubhatva (or Graha Uttama, as defined above) is,

- in 3 Vargas is 'Uttama-amsa',

- in 4 Vargas is 'Gopura-amsa',

- in 5 Vargas is 'Simhaasana-amsa',

- in 6 Vargas is 'Parvata-amsa',

- in 7 Vargas is 'Devaloka-amsa',

- in 8 Vargas is 'Kumkuma-amsa',

- in 9 Vargas is 'Airaavata-amsa',

- in 10 Vargas is 'Vaishnava-amsa',

- in 11 Vargas is 'Siva-amsa',

- in 12 Vargas is 'Bhaasvat-amsa',

- in 13 Vargas is 'Vaiseshika-amsa'

Hence, I request the Gurujan to kindly help me with the right key to constitute

the Traiyodasa Vargas.

Thanking You in advance.
