Guest guest
Dear Priyaji, There is an old beautiful and powerful Renuka Devi temple in the suburbs of my town. It is said that the temple is several centuries years old and the current temple building construction was done in the 16th century by a Nawab in the Muslim style of architecture. The situation is that the purohit has planned to demolish the temple & the clay image of the main deity and entirely rebuild the temple. An earlier such attempt was averted in Aug 08 by a court stay order invoked a local politician. But now the purohit has planned to start the reconstruction in Aug 09 and the politician has sided with the purohit this time. We have tried to explain to the purohit to just work on the renovation of the existing temple without damaging the strong and beautiful temple building or the deity and thus retaining its sanctity but he does not seem to budge. I am also trying to contact the Archeological survey of India to see if they can interfere(but there are a lot of complications).I am also trying to research and find out if there is any Agama that talks about the rules of temple renovation. Can you please suggest some upaya that we can do to help save the temple. Thanks and Regards, VSM
