Dear Helen,

Very briefly, for these 9 days Goddess Durga is worshipped. These four shloks

are addressed to her in four forms: as mother; as Shakti [protector]; as Goddess

Saraswati [goddess of wisdom]; and as Laxmi [goddess of wealth]

In case you want to know more about it, then go to Google or Wikipedia.

Sincerely,

Priya
