Clarification in vedic astrology

Namaste Learned members of the group-

I am just a beginner in learning astrology and have very basic questions.

Appreciate if someone could kindly please clarify-

1) What does a planet in exaltation mean? while what does the owner/ruling

planet signify? I am quite confused between the two. Ex: what are the effects if

both Mars and Sun are in Aries?

2) Another question is what happens if exaltation and fall/detriment planets are

in the same house? do the effects get neutralised?

Ex: what are the effects if Sun and Saturn/Venus are placed in the same house

where Aries is the ruling planet?

3) what are the effects if Sun is in Libra and placed in the 5th house

4) does vedic astrology signify placement of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto planets?

Some notes that I gathered for my learning and using for reference-

Sign Ruling Planet Exaltation (if a planet is in its sign of exaltation, in

particular if

it is in an angular house (1, 4, 7 and 10), it is said to be especially

strengthened) Detriment (Opposite zodiac sign from the one that rules-weaken the

strength of the planet) Fall (opposite zodiac sign from the one it is exalted

in- greatly weakens the strength of that planet)

Aries Mars Sun Venus Saturn

Taurus Venus Moon Mars Uranus/Saturn?

Gemini Mercury N Node Jupiter S.Node

Cancer Moon Neptune Saturn Mars

Leo Sun --- Uranus/Saturn? Mercury

Virgo Mercury Mercury Neptune/Jupiter? Venus

Libra Venus Saturn Mars Sun

Scorpio Mars Uranus/Saturn? Venus Moon

Sagittarius Jupiter S. Node Mercury N.Node

Capricorn Saturn Mars Moon Neptune/Jupiter?

Aquarius Saturn Mercury Sun ---

Pisces Jupiter Venus Mercury Mercury

Thank you!Regards,

Divya

Dear Divya,

I am trying to address your queries, with my limited knowledge.

1)A planet in exaltation is said to be " Deepta " -- the condition of the

planet can be compared to be very excited.

Ruling planet/owner signifies the attitude of the host. Suppose, I am

your guest---my happiness will depend on your attitude. If you are

inimical to me, I may not feel happy;i may feel humiliated & will

think reconsider when you invite.

A planet in exaltation strengthens its own house. For example, if you

give me good food, my stomach will be strengthened.

Sun signifies self-esteem, while Mars signifies inflated ego.So one

having such combination, specially in Aries, in closer degrees, within

20 deg, one may possess such qualities. Now again, it depends on their

position with respect to Lagna.

Any planet afflicting such combination is sure to result in ego clash,

humiliated. Its better to have it afflicted, than floating in inflated

ego.

2)Not necessarily. Saturn represents practicality. Saturn believes in

teaching you in rough way.So Saturn in Aries, feels somewhat

uncomfortable. If he be there, say in Lagna ,the native may have some

attitude problems, & if Mars is strong, he is sure to have frequent

ego-clash & confrontations.

It is said that planets become weak in the opposite house, from the

one it owns. It is partially true. We again need to see, whether they

become mutual friends, mutual exchange, aspects etc.

3)Sun represents our Soul, while 5th house represents our progeny &

" Upasana " . Since Sun will be the 3L in 3rd house from own house, one

may be self-dependent---will make his own fortune, without any

external help, while he may have some problems with his after borns.

Some authorities, strong Sun denotes one will never have monetory issues.

4)Personally I dont consider Uranus, Neptune & Pluto. I dont know

about others so can't comment.

I remember there was a person in this forum, who " discovered " a new

planet, & named it as " Ajay " planet, & only he would know its

movement, longitude etc.

I hope in the near future, we will have some more planets to aid us in

predicting effectively----2 luminaries, 5 prakashita grahas & 2

shadowy planets are not enough to justify our events & helping in

fixing astrology!!

Thank you,

.

Namaste Gaurav ji. Thanks so much for the detailed response.

If anyone could kindly guide me on which books or recommended websites

/source would be useful in learning vedic astrology, I would really

appreciate the info. I understand it is an ocean of learning, at the

same time, I believe it is a beautiful science and a really

interesting subject..

Thanks in advance,

Divya.

Dear Divya,

Its true that books dont make astrologers, while websites around make

one " cripple " with knowledge, i.e. One who knows at least 1% of

astrology, will be " zero " % if he follows the contemporary websites,

which contains only misconceptions, like either Sade Sati, kalsarpa

yoga or Kuja Dosha(better known as " Manglik " in North India & " Chevvai

Dosham " in South India!!)

However, whatever I learnt in astrology, how little & negligible it

is, only by books & also apply my intuition, previous case studies &

finally rather foremost, blessing of Shree Lakshmi-Nrisimha, Shree

Ganapati & Navagrahas.

I dont know from which part of the country you are, as an honest

suggestion, I would advise try to get Brihat Parasara Hora Shastra,

not the one by R.Santhanam, but by G.C.Sharma, Sagar Publications.

Once you get some knowledge, later you can get Jataka Parijata &

Uttara Kalamrita.

Never think twice of buying these books, again dont buy all at a time,

as you finish, buy the other one. These 3 classics will be your guide

in your astrological journey.

We are planning to open a website, which will be an open platform for

the learners & also experienced people in this service for years. If

God wills, it will be definitely informed through forums..

Astrology is like an ocean...which has no limits, no ends, no base, no

beginning...

You keep on going deeper into it, to find the base...but alas..!!It

takes years...

I wish you all the best in astro journey...

Good luck!!

Gaurav.
