Guest guest
dear friends shivapurana, vidyesvara samhita, chapter 10, titled " five fold duties and the omkara " narrates the same as follows: the permanent cycle of the five fold duties consists of creation, maintenance, annihilation, concealment and blessing. these are also known as sarga, sthiti, samhara, tirobhava and mukti respectively. these five activities are also observed in the five elements in earth, waters, fire, wind and the firmament respectively. in order to look after these five fold activities, lord shiva has five faces. due to the austerities, brahma got the first job of creation and vishnu got the second job of mainenance while the rest three are vested with lord shiva only. to acquire knowledge of lord shiva, omkara mantra " OM " came out of the mouth of lord shiva indicating lord shiva. the syllable " A " came from the northern face. the syllable " U " came from western face. the syllable " M " came from southern face. the bindu (dot) came from the eastern face. the nada (mystical sound) came from the middle face. then all of these five united in the syllable " OM " . the two sets of created beings viz. name (nama) and form (rupa) are pervaded by this mantra indicating shiva and shakti. from " OM " is born the panchakshari mantra " NAMASIVAYA " indicating all knowledge. the syllables " NA " etc. follow the order of the syallables " A " narrated above. from the above, it is suggested that chanting of simple " OM " is the most easiest mantra for natives. shivbhakts chant either panchakshari " NAMASIVAYA " or shadakshari " OM NAMASIVAYA " according to their convenience. with best wishes and blessings pandit arjun www.rudraksharemedy.com
