Guest guest
Dear List I lost my old Astrodatabank and now it is not for sale anymore. As I would like to do astro research I would like to know is someone would sell their original astrobank software? You may write to me off list on christensen.cristian Kind Regards Cristian, Denmark (Hindu Astrologer since 1987)
Guest guest
When you purchased it, Cristian, it must have come on a CD! Where is that? By the way, Astrodatabank is now in public domain and managed by Astrodienst! So don't despair! And please keep us informed of your research. Best of luck! Guest guest
I think ALL of the birthdatabase, and not just a part, is available for free in the Wiki format. What is missing is the research tool which was based on MS Access in the original commercial version. So, any searching, grouping or astrosignatures etc would have to be carried out by the consumers. Alois Trendle indicated in the ADB forum that the unsupported version of original ADB is available but there is no URL or so on. Guest guest
Hello Rohini Nice to find you here. For instance If you want to combine Astrology with Neural Network to find hidden patterns in the charts you may need a huge amount of astrological data - and each chart needs to be calculated. In the Astrodatabase software I had (Version 2.0) I could convert the data directly into Solar Fire without the need to enter each chart data from scratch. This makes a huge difference - weeks or months could be saved. And in these days most of us does not appear to live forever anymore - al least not physical. I asked Alois Trendle on the ADB forum and he said that he had not yet taken the decision if the ADB software should be available. My original CD god a scratch after some months so I could not install it anymore - and this was before I learned the importance of making backups. Anyhow i am happy that the ADB is available on the net. Guest guest
Dear Cristian, While Access-based ADB was a huge help for serious students like me, for Vedic Astrology/Jyotish it was really less than adequate. Not dicing anybody and Mark Donough is a great fellow, but ADB was really created with Tropical astrology rules in mind and so serves that well. I particularly miss the fact that I cannot account for Jaimini factors (rashi sambandhas, padas, charakarakas, karakamsha and special lagnas etc) or yogas for instance though some of the simple ones can be looked at using filters and astrosignatures. But try creating a filter for Kalsarpa Yoga (mangal dosha was easy!) and you will know what I mean ;-) Now Andrew Foss (another Great Programmer) did incorporate 'yoga-pattern recognition' engines in his software as did Kalaa to some extent from what I hear. Goravani Jyotish back in early 1990s had a factor-frequency sorter tool which was rather slow (Due to slow processing power back then) but it had certain things that could have been incorporated (for instance cutting off the search at a frequency of occurrance determined by the user) but wasn't given any thought. Parashara's light has a wonderful Yoga identifying ability but underexploited and not even made available to the customer as a research tool, although it does allow the users to create a user text yoga/combination file which can identify user-defined combinations in a single chart but not in a collection of charts :-( I wish I knew how to program! Neural network is a great possibility, particularly with the enormously powerful computers today with dual and quad cores and what not, but while some tropical astrologers programmers have been working on that for years now and have products available, where are similar supports for us poor jyotishis, despite so many programmers and software engineers being ardent and devoted jyotishis (this is a desperate plea and not trying to thumb my nose at anybody, please understand! I am just frustrated and too old to learn programming and create what I desire for!) Thanks for tolerating my venting!
