Please calm down. What was wrong in discussing the method of calculating

exaltation used by so-called " vedic " astrologers ?? Did you resent the use of

the term " vedic " ?? I think you take Parashara's method to be Vedic. Am I in the

wrong ??

I am calm as always :-)

 

I know you are on a SOuLAR plane that must feel even my calm responses as

anything but calm, but we worldly people talk like that.

 

Before I read your post (this one) I responded to Abhijit by post #

117847. You may wish to read that to see where I stand.

 

I am very indebted to BPHS, as it exists, in all the different versions. On your

recommendation, I am studying Pandit Devchandra Jha's edition (has been long

since I read a book in my matri-bhasa: Hindi, and enjoying it!) but have not

found anything significantly different from Pt. Sharma's edition (Sagar) which I

have always recommended.

 

However, that must not be mistaken as stating that ancient as it is (and vedas

even more ancient presumably) and carried through oral tradition and then

captured in print -- there may not have been the finger-prints of mortals all

over it or at least in few places.

 

You see, for me Astrology has never been a religion or some cultural prestige

issue as it is for some! I do not even care about the age and times when the

jyotish texts were written or this illusory purity thing that somehow seems to

become a huge baggage for some individuals!

 

If, just for argument's sake, evidence emerges that Hindu culture or scriptures

etc originated in northern australia and during the migration of lands became

incorporated in India and also brought cows which are not indigenous to India,

from what someone told me (I did not verify, so please do not run with it!), it

matters not one whit to me, or to my dedication to Jyotish etc.

 

But what intrigues me is the way the north indian chart is arranged

(counterclockwise) while the south indian chart is arranged clockwise!

 

Looks like you have read some of my writings where I talk about this and so

would not waste internet bandwidth ;-)

 

Thanks for recommending my articles but there is a biblical saying ... which is

Now I know your stand fully, and I agree with all your statements,

including those on astrology in general. But I must state two things :

 

Firstly, Vedic Astrology is part of Vedic Religion, but I agree with

the spirit of your statement.

 

Secondly, I know no version of BPHS is totally original, but I saw a

Sanskrit version online which is 100% spurious and is unfortunately the

only Sanskrit version online. Another unforunate fact is that this

spurious version is the basis of some English translations.

 

This spurious Sanskrit version has all the verses rewritten by some

expert/experts who changed the language of all verses but kept the

meaning unaltered in most of the cases, excepting a few such as the

verse about " drig-ganita " which is absent in Chowkhamba's edition : I

had mentioned it in your forum. Those who mutilate the ganita and

phalita of Sage Parashara are " so-called " vedic astrologers. Am I clear

now ?? I have not stated myself fully on internet, because truth will

not be tolerated by some persons. But I will leave my views in book

form.

 

The phalita of Sage Parashara is much more complicated than the ganita

used by him. I wonder at the range and depth of mind of this genius. In

one of my articles, I explained the use of logarithmic scales used in

BPHS, which the West " discovered " only recently.

I do not understand what is meant by " What is wrong in discussing the

method of calculating exaltaion used by so-called " Vedic " Astrologer?

 

I think respected founder of this group had named this group -

Vedic-Astrology-The Vedic Astrology Discussion Group- with some purpose.

But of- course every contributor has the liberty to stretch the meaning

,depending upon his individual faculty.

 

We will not be surprised, if in future ,more groups come up in the

cyberworld with names such as, " Vedic Astrology with Lal Kitab and

Kali Kitab " , VA with Tantras " , VA sans Mantras, Astrology sans so

called Vedic Sutras, New age Astrology sans Parashara's age old

Sutras....so on so forth. So, the world will go on ,go on and go on,

Aur Baharein Phir Bhi Ayengi ,NAA Jaane Ham Kahaan Honge !
