As per Parasara, every planet has 3/4th aspect on the 8th house from it.

Moreover, the aspects are not evaluated just by taking the sign. It is not like

Mercury anywhere in Leo has 3/4th aspect on Jupiter anywhere in Pisces. There

are formulas given by Parasara to evaluate aspects based on the exact

longitudes. Unfortunately, most Vedic astrologers today do not use Parasara's

formulas and estimate aspects based on signs only. Their estimates are sometimes

off by a lot.

* * *

Suppose someone has Jupiter at 15Pi00, Saturn at 25Cp00 and Mercury at 15Le00.

Normally, people assume that Saturn has a full aspect (3rd house aspect) on

Jupiter and do not even consider Mercury's aspect on Jupiter.

However, if you strictly use Parasara's quantitative formulas, Saturn's aspect

on Jupiter above is merely 16.67% while Mercury's aspect on Jupiter is 75.00%.

Mercury's aspect on Jupiter is 4.5 times larger than Saturn's aspect on Jupiter!

When considering aspects of planets on lagna, houses, other planets and

mathematical points (special lagnas, arudha padas etc), most modern Vedic

astrologers invariably deviate from Parasara's clear and unambiguous teachings.

In JHora 7.4, click on the " Basics " upper tab and " Key Info " lower tab. In the

window at the top giving longitudes etc, get the popup menu and select

" Planetary Aspect Evaluation " . It will give you who aspects what and by how

much, strictly using Parasara's formulas!

BTW, the aspect evaluation formulas I am talking about are not my research. They

are unambiguously mentioned by Parasara and translated by all translators alike.

Dr Raman mentioned the same formulas in his " Graha and Bhava Balas " . Computer

softwares use the same formulas in calculating drishti bala, which is part of

shadbala.

Best regards,

Narasimha

[JyotishWritings] Re: Do 'strong' and 'weak' aspects exist?

Namaste,

Parasara gave a way to quantify planetary aspects. You need not just say

" strong " or " weak " aspects, but you can actually *quantify* the strength of a

planetary aspect. Parasara gave explicit formulas. These are used by everybody

in finding " drishti bala " (aspectual strength), which is a part of shadbala (sum

of 6 strengths). However, people tend to ignore it when considering aspects in

horoscope analysis and only use it in shadbala calculation. That is quite

illogical.

* * *

Suppose someone has Jupiter at 26Pi08, Saturn at 26Cp51 and Mercury at 13Le24.

Normally, people assume that Saturn has a full aspect on Jupiter and do not

consider Mercury's aspect on Jupiter.

However, if you strictly use Parasara's formulas (which are used by software

programs to calculate shadbala!!), Saturn's aspect on Jupiter is only 24%

(Jupiter is at the end of 2nd house from Saturn and not in the 3rd house).

Mercury's aspect on Jupiter is 64.38%. Mercury's aspect on Jupiter is much

larger in strength than Saturn's aspect on Jupiter.

In Jagannatha Hora 7.4 to be released, there is an option to view the percentage

of aspect of each of the eight planets on various points in the zodiac (lagna,

house cusps, planets, special lagnas, upagrahas, 12 arudha padas and 12 houses

from them etc, in all divisional charts).

Best regards,

Narasimha
