Guest guest
The Advanced Thoughts of PeriyAzvAr - PeriAzvAr the Gentleman A student of twelfth class commented to his classmate ' My father is a gentleman. He glosses over my misdeeds'. Sure. The misdeeds, if taken seriously would explode into public and tranform into a bad name. The best thing is to gloss over. It is said that if you cannot defeat somebody, join them. Perhaps, one may think that these are indeed applicable to mundane and materialsitic things. These probably are the thinking of modern man rolling on materialsitic pursuits , wealth creation and therefore does not have time to think on ethical values. NO Sir. Our Great PeriyaZvaR a responsible father had the dilemma of his life. The first shock he had in his life was Sri ANDal offering the garland already worn by Her (Sudik kodutha sudarkkodi) This gave way to more and more shocks and surprises. The fact that she did not look on earhtly souls (MANIdavarkku enRu pEAchup padil..) but hell bent on SRi EmperumAn HImself as Her life saviour gave Sri PeriyAzvAr jitters. He could sense the gradual progress of this child infatuation growing in leaps and bounds as adoration, bakthi, affection and unstoppable love towards The Supreme HImself. Sri PeriyAzvAr was no chemist but he definitely knew that any potions if over boiled would lose its potency and any potion under boiled would not have the efficacy. This fear was lurking in him. What shall this gentleman do? He had no way to educate her or make amends. He could not teach her to hate Him as He HImself was the one who taught this. He could not obliterate the devotion as he was the sower of the seed of devotion in Her heart. Hearts of Hearts perhaps, he liked this. He started liking this, possibly. He did not want a public scandal of Sri ANDAl being taken off from the Scene by Periya PerumAL. However, He did not want ANDal to sulk and die of madness of separation, either. The best way, he thought was to acknowledge this relationship and Send Her to Him. Well this would obviate all the complications. This would take away all the impending doom which may fall on the family. and that is what He did ultimately.
