Thank you for you concerns. It is good to know your religious nature. But i am sorry to say that you are mis-taught by someone about mantras.First of all all we hindus must understand that mantra, chant, vedas or any other such material is not a part of hindu society. IT IS PART OF HUMAN SOCIETY.Secondly we shall know how mantra, chant, pray work. All we know that Nature has 6 elements (not 5).every element has great power. and Air is one of that element which can be effected by sound (wave), our Rishi were not only just priest, but they were scientist. They found way of controlling and using these elements for welfare of human being. One of their discovery was chants or mantras.Chants energize and same time bound the air near us (all air which is effected by chant waves). So chants should be speak loudly.Second thing is pronunciation, well let me assure you that if word is complete then it is right in chant, no specific pronunciation is

needed (you may remember the story of where Devi Saraswati, who penalised to live at patal because she argued that Chants should be spoken on a specific way).Well due to thousands of years and our many mis believes human now is not open minded and thats why could not understand WHAT GOD IS? and HOW TO FIND GOD?.But i wish you to understand things, open your eyes and see world with single eye, then you can see GOD.Balaji Srinivasan <balaji.vasan wrote: Dear Ruchi Jain, I am a relatevely new member to the Divya Desam Group. But I am a bit traditional and orthodox on beliefs and customs and of the view that things have to be followed the traditional way. I was taught that Gayathri Mantra shall not be

recited/chanted/uttered loud either individually or by a group. It is a mantra for meditation. It is a mantra to be meditated by oneself. I understand there lot of people from other religions who are interested to know about Hinduism. If given proper explanation they should be able to understand the imporance of the method of using each mantra. Let them not misunderstand and propagate misinformation. I hope you understand my point. Regards, Balaji Srinivasan On Mon, Mar 17, 2008 at 8:50 AM, Ruchi Jain <ch_ruchi79 wrote: Gayatri is known as mother of all hindu Gods. No yagya or hawan is completed without Gayatri Mantra. Gayatri means holy. Gayatri mantra contain all the powers of this universe. Mantra (Chants) are powerful sounds that energize air near us. These chants energize air where these sound waves reaches thats why chants (mantra) should listen or speak in loud voice so that a big area near us can get energize. http://www.flixya.com/video/781440This clip was made by a friend from Brazil who is very impressed by hindu religion. Sound are 100% correct and sound is so great that you will praise when you listen. Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Try it now. -- Balaji Srinivasan
